This morning I did my first HYROX simulation race…
And I got to do it alongside daughter Isabelle.
What a special experience.
Training hard is one thing.
Competing is another.
But sharing the gym floor with your own child, pushing through the same stations, feeling the same burn, encouraging each other through the tough bits…
WOW ❤️
The atmosphere at Ion Gym Cardiff was unreal. Organised. Loud. Supportive. Proper event energy from start to finish.
And the format itself? Brutal in the best possible way.
It exposes you. Tests your engine. Tests your grit. Tests your mindset.
But here’s what I’ll remember most…
Not the sleds

It’s looking across and seeing Izzy digging in when it got tough. No drama. No excuses. Just effort. Well maybe a few complaints from Izzy 😂😂

Amazing catching up with my World Cup teammates on the field and in the bar for a few 🍻 afterwards.

After dedicating the last year to mastering a new sport, changing my training programme completely, relearning how to run pain-free, and enduring a rigorous three-trial selection process, I achieved my dream of representing my county at the Touch Rugby World Cup in Nottingham at the age of 45 👴🏼
In our group, we competed against Spain, Australia, Fiji, Chile, Jersey, and Papua New Guinea. We finished second in our group, with our only loss to Australia, the eventual champions.
Though we fell short of our goal to reach the semifinals, exiting the quarterfinals with a 7-4 defeat, we secured a respectable 5th place at the World Cup. While I always strive for victory, this achievement fuels my ambition for the next four years leading to the tournament in Auckland, NZ.
Looking ahead, my focus is on making the squad for the Euros in France next year. This goal will drive my efforts over the coming 12 months.
The week long tournament in Nottingham was the best week of my sporting life, spent alongside the best teammates, coaches, and companions. Thank you all for making both the competition and the months of preparation so memorable. These experiences will stay with me forever.

As a dad of two beautiful daughters and new baby boy on the way, I understand how hard it can be to fit in time for exercise amidst the demands of work and family.
