🎾 Pickleball is taking off at Rhiwbina LTC! 🚀

If you’ve been walking past the courts on a Friday morning, you’ve probably heard it: a mix of "good shot!", "out!", and a whole lot of laughter. 😂

At just £60 for the entire year (running all the way until April 2027), it’s incredible value —but the price isn’t the real secret to its success. It’s the community! The Rhiwbina Pickleball crew are organised! We’re talking weekly social play, off-court get-togethers, ad-hoc games, and a buzzing WhatsApp group that keeps everyone connected. 📱✨

Why is everyone obsessed with Pickleball? 🤔
Super easy to learn: Less technical than tennis, so you’ll be playing rallies in no time.

Incredibly social: Played as a doubles game on a smaller court, meaning you’re close enough to actually chat and laugh.

Kinder to your joints: Less ground to cover means less wear and tear, but still a fantastic, fast-paced workout!

More action, less fuss: Short matches and way less time spent chasing balls across the court.

Need to know before you go:
📍 The Setup: We have outdoor courts ready to go (including one permanently marked tennis court that fits two pickle courts!).
🎒 Equipment: Bats and balls are provided to get you started. If you get hooked, you can grab a 3-pack of your own balls for about £6 from YC Sports in Whitchurch.
🌦️ All-Weather: Pickleball runs all year round—yes, even through the winter!
🎾 Included with tennis memberships too!

💡 Quick teamwork note: Players just pitch in to pop the nets up and take them down (they're kept right by the court).

Girls' Friendly Match / Gêm gyfeillgar i ferched*

We hosted a girls friendly juniors match on Friday afternoon 2 January, between Rhiwbina, Allt yr Yn, and Whitchurch LTCs. 23 girls played a mixture of singles and doubles, with Rhiwbina girls winning the highest percentage of matches, followed by Allt yr Yn and then Whitchurch.

Prynhawn llwyddiannus o tennis, wedi ei chwarae mewn ysbryd arbennig, gyda rhai rallies gwych / a successful afternoon of tennis, played in good spirit between all of the girls, with some excellent rallies played. Thanks to Jeff for cooking the food to feed 23 girls (and some of the adults).

A fantastic night! Congratulations to all our winners and those nominated. This was our annual awards night where winners of our Club Championships collected their trophies, our plate winners collected their goodie bags and our special Club Awards were handed to very worthy winners. Thank you to everyone who came along, took part in the Club Champs, helped organise the night and those (who are many) that make our club what it is.... Amazing 👏 😀

Andrea, Helen and Rachel picked up our awards today. A huge congratulations to our winter Ladies 5ths, Mixed 2nds. Ladies Vets 1, Mixed Vets and summer Ladies 2nds who all came top in their divisions in 2025.

A special mention to our Ladies 5ths winter team and Captain Rachel, who worked so hard to gain promotion. The hard work definitely paid off.

Bronze 🥉 medals for our Pickleballer players at the Welsh Open

A huge well done 👏 to Rachel, Judy and Alex all achieving bronze in the Barbados Welsh Open held tennis centre.

The ladies only started playing last year, when we marked out two pickleball courts at the club.

Many members are now enjoying Pickleball. There's social on a Friday morning and 'Pickleball Only' membership at just £29 until 31st March 2026 - including free court bookings and padel use. You do need your own balls.
