Unisun Athletic 4-2 Gillford Gillies 💜🖤
A disappointing night for the Gillies as we suffered our first defeat since our U13 season in a top-of-the-table clash against Unisun.
The lads started slowly and found themselves 2-0 down after two avoidable defensive mistakes. To their credit, they showed great character to fight back, with Frank lifting a lovely finish over the keeper before Rhys followed up after an excellent save to make it 2-2 at half time.
The second half was a much better performance, with the Gillies creating chance after chance and largely controlling the game. Unfortunately, a combination of excellent goalkeeping, last-ditch defending, the post and some missed opportunities kept us from finding the breakthrough.
Unisun regained the lead with five minutes remaining before a further defensive error allowed them to make it 4-2.
Credit to Unisun, who worked incredibly hard and took their chances. For us, it's a night of frustration and disappointment, particularly because so many of the goals we conceded came from mistakes we know we can avoid.
The unbeaten run has come to an end, but the lads have set high standards for themselves. Now it's about the reaction. We learn, we improve and we go again. 💪
⭐ MOTM – Sam
A tireless performance, contributing at both ends of the pitch and constantly creating problems for Unisun.
