Match Report - 27/09 🗞️

Newlaithes 3–7 Clubhouse

Few week off the reports with Roberto G too busy enjoying Sunday club to string a sentence together! Today we were up against a young Newlaithes side down at the Sheepmount.

The game started slowly for both teams, with a couple of early chances going begging before the Bugsman slotted one away nicely on his weak foot. 1-0.

Newlaithes got one back not long after to make it 1-1, but we pushed forward again and Senior nicked in to put us back in front. 2-1.

Alf then hit an absolute wonder strike from range to put us 3-1 up and give us a bit of breathing space. That was short-lived though, as Newlaithes grabbed another before half time to send us into the break 3-2 up.

A slow start to the second half saw us concede early again, making it 3-3 and forcing a few changes from the gaffa to mix things up.

We pushed on from there, with Bug grabbing his second to put us back in front. 4-3.

A corner came in and Big Mike headed it back across goal, where Rob G was there to nick it in from about two yards out. 5-3.

Bug then secured his second hat-trick in two weeks to give us the breathing space we thought we'd had in the first half. 6-3.

From there we controlled the game, with Sandall coming back off the bench and bagging a header with his first touch back to make it 7-3.

FT: Newlaithes 3–7 Clubhouse

Second win on the bounce as we look to build some momentum for the rest of the season. 💙🖤

Newlaithes are a good young side who we're sure will push on this season. Good luck for the rest of the season lads. 🤝

Clubhouse 2-2 Upperby Social Football Club

First game back after a long summer off, new name, new kits and back at the Sheepmount.

We started slowly and it was a pretty scrappy opening, with both teams struggling to get to grips with the wet surface. Plenty of missed touches and not much quality on show early doors.

After around 10/15 minutes, Upperby got the opener. It had been fairly even up to that point, more of a battle than a football match really.

We had a couple of decent chances ourselves but couldn't find the finish.

HT: Upperby 1–0 Clubhouse

Upperby got their second not long after the break when Duffy could only parry a cross from a corner, which fell nicely to their lad who wasn't going to miss from there.

2–0.

Heads could easily have dropped at that point, but we finally started to wake up and play like we know we can.

New gaffer Gaz Hughes then made his first big ballsy move, switching to three at the back and throwing more men forward.

It paid off.

Lime cut the ball back across the box for Sandall, who tucked it away to get us back in the game with around 15 minutes to go.

From there we were the better side and kept pushing. The equaliser was coming and with 10 minutes left, Bean glanced a header into the net to make it 2–2.

Not long after, Upperby were reduced to 10 men after their lad flew in two-footed and picked up his second yellow.

We pushed for the winner but couldn't quite find it.

A proper feisty first game back, plenty of bookings, a red card and a comeback from 2–0 down.

We'll take the point.
