Play isn't "just play."

When children climb, jump, balance, crawl and explore, they're doing much more than keeping busy.

They're developing physical skills, learning how their bodies move, solving problems and discovering what they're capable of.

How does your child know what to do next?

It’s called motor planning.

Motor planning is the brain’s ability to work out how the body needs to move to complete an action.

Think about climbing over an obstacle. Your child has to work out where to put their hands, where their feet need to go and how to move their body to get to the other side.

At Tumble Tots, activities such as climbing, balancing, jumping and moving across equipment give children opportunities to practise these skills through movement and play.

Behind the scenes… set up the first class with us 🙌🏻📹

What a week we had last week. All the children did so well on the new equipment set up, it’s really amazing to see their confidence grow ☺️

We celebrated birthdays, development milestones and really enjoyed the new action songs. Wheels on the bus was clearly a firm favourite, always what makes your arms ache the most so well done grown ups 👏🏻

In the car. In the bath. At 6am. Again. And again.

But those familiar songs and rhymes aren't just there to keep little ones entertained.
During Circle Time, our Body Identification rhyme helps children learn words for different parts of their body as they sing, point and join in.

Eyes. Ears. Nose. Hands. Feet.

The repetition is doing more than you think.

Why is the equipment the same as last week?

It isn't laziness. Every Tumble Tots lesson plan runs for two weeks.

Week one, a child learns the setup. Week two, they build on it.

That's the whole point. A child who already knows what's coming next isn't spending the session working out the room. They're spending it trying something harder than they managed a week ago.

Then it changes, and they start again.

That’s a wrap on our second full week of classes.

It’s been a joy and privilege to see so many Tumble Tots grow in confidence, with many starting to recognise their yellow t-shirt and eagerly coming through the doors to get on the equipment.

For those who may seem a little on the unsure side, they have still made progress week on week and should all be really proud of themselves. Seeing some start to take their seat for circle time before I make the announcement shows how much you’re all settling into class (that’s grown ups included too!)

What a way to finish the week with the amazing news that our little Tot pictured below has started taking his first steps! 🥹👏🏻💛

Next week we’re changing our equipment and circle time and are excited to share it with you.

Before children have the words, they're already communicating.

A clap, a tap, a wave, an action in a song... these are all little ways children begin to understand that their movements can communicate something.

What might look like climbing, balancing, jumping or crawling to us can be much more than that for a child.

Every movement gives children an opportunity to practise skills, solve little challenges and discover what their bodies can do.

At Tumble Tots, our sessions are carefully structured so children can build these skills through movement, repetition and exploration, while having plenty of fun along the way.

Because when you see the movement, we see everything that is developing behind it🤩

That’s a wrap on our first week! ✅

We’ve loved meeting every Tumble Tot who’s come through our doors. Week one can be quite overwhelming so they should all be really proud of themselves 👏🏻🤩

Today in Writtle the weather was miserable but luckily we are an all weather activity, when a wet playground doesn’t seem so appealing 🫣

Tomorrow we’re back for our second session in East Hanningfield for more fun. You’ll really start to notice a difference in your little ones confidence over their 2nd and 3rd session as they settle in 💛
