White Horse Support- Laura White An Introduction
I started riding as a child and have never looked back! I enjoy working with horses with “personality” and progressing through their quirks.

🏆 BHS East Coach of the Year Finalist 2026
Helping you and your horse reach your full potential
At your pace, on your terms
Building confidence, enjoying the ride
Welfare-first bridle & bit fitting
📍 Essex | Freelance Coaching I have experience in showing with a previous ride, having competed at local level and also qualified for Equifest. My main passion is Dressage, however that doesn’t mean I’d say no to having a blast at Cross Country again! I often feel that they are the most rewarding rides when it all comes together. I work with clients towards their own personal goals and ambitions and always want to bring out the best in horse and rider. I am UKCC Level 2 and BHSAI qualified, I train regularly to ensure I am up to date with the industry and can always offer my clients the absolute best. When horses are involved, we are always learning! I have previously worked as a Work Based Assessor training students towards Levels 1-3 in Horse Care (BHS Stage equivalents) and found it very rewarding helping them progress through their training and watching them grow within their workplaces. I also love to help out with Dressage competitions as a "Writer" for the judge. I find this gives a great insight into what each judge is looking for from each partnership and also how differently we can all interpret the same test! Sadly I don't get so much time for this now but would love to get back into it soon. I have experience working with adults and children and with a real variety of horses both as a rider and instructor and love a challenge. I agree aims and targets with each client and work towards those in fun and enjoyable sessions that are tailored to each individual. I have been teaching for the past few years and love the variety and freedom that working as freelance brings. No 2 days are ever the same! My mission
I started up White Horse Support in June 2017 whilst working as Groom and Rider for Kyrby Brown, Para Dressage Rider. This role ended in December 2017 and I took the leap to full time Self Employment at the beginning of 2018. Already I cannot believe how much my business and client base has grown and hope that this will continue going forward. It is my mission to become the instructors that I have looked up to. I am inspired by riders and owners that have had to overcome their own challenges to achieve their goals, no matter how big or small. I owe my current successes to a handful of instructors that have taken me under their wings over the years and pushed me to become the rider and coach I am today. I strive to be the best that I can be and always aim to pass this on to my clients. I love the proud feeling I get from watching clients achieve their dreams, whether they be competition results or their own personal successes. My aim is for White Horse Support & my name to become "household names" within the equine industry in Essex. I hope to achieve this through believing in my clients, supporting local competitions & events and continuing in my own education and qualifications.

Progress can’t be rushed

Progress in horses rarely happens in a straight line.

There will be good sessions, average sessions, and days where it feels like you’ve gone backwards. That doesn’t mean the work isn’t working.

Trying to force progress usually creates more problems than it solves.

A horse needs time to:

* understand what is being asked
* develop the strength to physically do it
* build confidence in the work
* become consistent rather than simply producing something once

One good transition, a better step of canter, or a moment of softer contact is progress, even if it isn’t there every time yet.

In my experience, the biggest changes often come when we stop chasing the end result and focus on getting the foundations right.

Build it properly, give it time and let the horse catch up.

There’s no magic formula to good coaching

It’s about understanding the horse, understanding the rider, and knowing what the partnership in front of you actually needs

That’s what I aim to bring to every lesson

I think my favourite part of coaching at the moment is watching a horse and rider find their stride together.

That moment when it just starts to click.

The horse relaxes
The rider relaxes
You can almost see them both breathe out

And suddenly, instead of fighting their way through an exercise, they’re working together.

Those moments never get old

“My horse is fine for everyone else.”

This is something I hear surprisingly often.

“They’re fine for the yard owner.”

“They behave for my instructor.”

“They don’t do it when anyone else handles them.”

And when your horse behaves very differently with you, it’s incredibly easy to come away thinking:

“So what am I doing wrong?”

But horses don’t behave in isolation.

They respond to our body language, our positioning, our timing, our confidence, the amount of pressure we apply and the way we respond to what they’re doing.

Sometimes those differences are tiny.

But to a horse, they can make a huge difference.

That doesn’t mean your horse is deliberately giving you a harder time.

And it doesn’t mean you’re a bad owner.

It may simply mean that you and your horse haven’t learned how to communicate clearly with each other yet.

And when the behaviour is bigger, stronger or more frightening, it’s even more important to understand what is happening rather than simply trying to make the behaviour stop.

Sometimes you don’t need someone to take over and do it for you.

You need someone to stand beside you, notice the things you can’t yet see and help you understand what your horse is telling you.

That’s where I come in.

FOUNDATIONS FRIDAY 🐴 | CONFIDENCE

Confidence in the saddle isn’t something you either have or don’t have.

And it certainly isn’t something you have to wait around and hope will appear one day.

Real confidence comes from understanding.

Understanding your horse. Understanding what you’re asking. Understanding how to influence the situation when something doesn’t go to plan. And, perhaps most importantly, understanding that you have the tools to deal with what happens next.

The more you understand, the less you have to rely on guesswork.

And the less you rely on guesswork, the more predictable riding starts to feel.

That’s where confidence begins to grow.

It might be something as simple as understanding why your horse reacts to a particular situation, knowing how to prepare for it, or having a plan for what you’ll do if it doesn’t go exactly as expected.

Confidence doesn’t mean never feeling nervous.

It means feeling nervous and still knowing, “I understand this. I know what I can do.”

And that’s why building confidence isn’t about pushing yourself to “just get on with it”.

It’s about building the knowledge, skills and experience that give you something solid to fall back on 🤍

Because good coaching isn’t about doing more, pushing harder or sticking rigidly to a plan.

It’s about doing what you and your horse actually need.

And sometimes, that means going back to basics, getting off, or changing the plan entirely.

“My horse won’t stand still.”

It sounds like a simple problem.

But what if your horse isn’t actually refusing to stand?

Sometimes there are lots of little things happening that we don’t notice because we don’t yet know to look for them.

Where are you standing?

What are you doing with your body?

What happens when your horse moves?

How quickly do you respond?

When do you release?

Does your horse actually understand what you’re asking?

And what are they telling you when they move?

To an experienced eye, those little details can tell you a lot.

To a newer owner, they can be almost impossible to spot - particularly when everyone else’s horse seems to just stand there quietly.

That doesn’t mean you’re doing everything wrong.

It means there’s something you haven’t been taught yet.

You don’t know what you don’t know.

And that’s exactly where having someone experienced beside you can make such a difference.
