Hello loves. It’s been a while. I hope you’re doing well. It’s been a very busy and full Summer this end, with wonderful emdr clients, artistic endeavours, family goodness and celebrancy work.
Whilst I’m better known for my funeral celebrancy, it’s a true joy to also carry out wedding ceremonies - especially for those I love dearly 🥰
On Saturday, I was honoured to conduct the service of one of the sweetest couples I know, in the woods on their farm. I snuck into the woods an hour before the ceremony to rehearse and work out how loudly I needed to project my voice with no mic and the occasional gust of wind in an unfavourable direction!! 🤣
What a beautiful day it was, full of fun, love and personal touches. Big congratulations to Mr and Mrs W 🥰🥰

Another heart warming result; using EMDR therapy on a lovely lady who was suffering badly with high anxiety and emetophobia (fear of being sick). We reached our goal last week and her phobia was even put to the test with some dodgy food! She remained completely calm and rational in the face of it. Triggers no more 🙏🏼🩷

“I contacted Jo to help me with my fear of being sick and to help me with anxiety and after having a few sessions of EMDR I found I was a lot calmer and the stress and anxiety lessened. I learned to recognise the triggers and not react to them, all with Jo’s help.”

Hello beautiful people. How are you?

I’m currently in southern Spain, recording something wonderful for you!
It’s a creative retreat which you won’t even have to leave home for as it’s all online.

All you need to commit to is one hour per day for 7 days, have a few basic materials and a sketchbook.

The retreat lessons will be sent to you on 1st to 7th August, but you will have access to them for the whole of August so it doesn’t matter which 7 days you choose.

By the end of the week, you will have a sketchbook full of painted pieces that will lead you to your own unique expressive style and you will leave with clarity around what to create next.

It doesn’t matter whether you are a complete novice or a professional artist, you will discover so much about yourself and where to take your creativity next.

What does this have to do with therapy? Well, making art is incredibly beneficial for us on so many levels. It’s good for our brain, it helps us to process our emotions, and as we navigate unknown territory in our art, we learn to do the same in our lives.

Plus, as you may be aware, I’m an abstract artist too. And have so much to share!

“Witnessing our child silently battle depression and anxiety through their school years and into university was heart-wrenching, culminating in that desperate 2 am call that left us feeling utterly helpless.

Hey loves. Sharing this in case it’s helpful…

During a recent client emdr session, my client shared that they were struggling to relax and rest without feeling incredibly guilty.

I asked what story or belief was running in their mind when they sat down to relax and rest.
The story said ‘I don’t deserve to relax when I have so much to do.’

We processed the guilt and the story with EMDR, and then I asked my client, ‘what if you were to ditch the ‘deserve’ word and replace it with the word ‘need’?

Do you need to rest? Do you need to relax? Do you need to recharge? Would it be beneficial to you? Would you get more done in the long term if you paced yourself and showed kindness to yourself?’

‘Ahhh, that’s so helpful, they replied. The deserve idea is completely irrelevant. Rest is exactly what I need.’

These fear based, unhelpful stories can really run the show if we’re not aware of them.
