The Fidelity study compared arthroscopic partial meniscectomy ('keyhole' surgery for a painful, torn knee meniscus) with sham placebo surgery ('fake' surgery where they put you under and faff around with your knee so you feel like you've had an op π) in people older than 35.
The people who had the sham surgery had just as good a result as the people having the actual surgery! This video explains:

Ewa Roosβ and Nina Kiseβs study shows that exercise (squats, single leg squats, step ups leg press/extension and hamstring and glute work) provides as good results as arthroscopic meniscectomy. Remember β the patients who fail rehab also fail surgery. Look for other solutions β not arthroscopy β to cure that patient. Here's the link to that article:
