Weโve finally had a game. Itโs been a good few weeks since the girls have actually played together, and today was our first 9v9 match against Gateshead United Boys. The pitch was in great condition considering the weather weโve had, although the fog was heavy and made for a strange morning.
This was always going to be a learning game. First time playing 9v9, first time really dealing with offsides for some of the girls, and also a learning curve for us as coaches. Understanding where girls are comfortable playing and what positions we need to work on will come with time. There were a few mistakes that led to goals, but thatโs part of the process and not something to put on the girls at all.
What stood out most was how hard all the girls worked and how well they played together for large parts of the game.
India was in goal for her first game with a full size 9v9 goal and was brilliant. She made some fearless saves and didnโt shy away from anything, which resulted in her being awarded opposition Player of the Match.
Eliza was solid as ever, using her pace to great effect and making some excellent recovery runs to get us out of trouble.
Kendal was our rock at the back, organising the defence well and managing her back line throughout the game.
Macie is small but incredibly quick and showed absolutely no fear against the boys, constantly getting involved and putting pressure on them.
Bonnie played her first game for the team and honestly looked like sheโs been part of the group from the start. She pushed well down the wings and was unlucky not to get herself a goal.
Emily was reliable as always. She was in the right place to score our second goal and then produced a brilliant moment by breaking from our own half, outpacing the boys and finishing with an outstanding strike into the top corner.
Lois was the coaches Player of the Match. She played both midfield and striker without a single complaint and showed relentless determination wherever she was asked to play.
Baba and Ella deserve a mention together. They were excellent in midfield, easily the two most vocal players on the pitch, working together like theyโve played side by side forever. This was even more impressive considering it was Ellaโs debut for the Sunday team.
Lyla led the line well as our centre forward, causing real problems for their defenders and scoring a brilliant first goal of the game.
Lucie worked hard on the wing, holding the ball up well, playing forward when she could and closing down the opposition to force mistakes. Her effort off the ball was really important for us.
Theyโre a great group of girls with strong friendships, and that really shows when they play together. Lots to build on as we settle into 9v9 football.
Thanks as always to all the parents for the continued support.

We were delighted to bring both our Saturday and Sunday teams together for our Christmas get-together ๐
The girls had an amazing time at War Rooms Laser Tag, Birtley and plenty of fun was had by all.
The girls have been fantastic throughout the first half of the season, and weโre really looking forward to what the second half will bring. As coaches, itโs been brilliant to see how much theyโve grown both as a team and as individuals, with confidence improving week by week.
A huge thank you to all the parents for your continued support so far this season โ it really does make a difference.
Now itโs time for a well-earned rest and some quality family time.
Merry Christmas from all the girls and coaches at Chester-le-Street Town Youth G U11 girls

The girls wrapped up their final training session before the Christmas break tonight โ and what a brilliant session it was.
There was a real buzz from start to finish. The girls worked hard, supported each other, and showed fantastic energy throughout. It was great to see so many smiles and so much laughter, while still knowing exactly when to switch on and focus.
Itโs been amazing to watch their development since the start of the season. Theyโre really showing us coaches everything theyโve learned, and we couldnโt be prouder. Weโve also had some fantastic new additions to the group over the past couple of weeks, and theyโve settled in brilliantly.
As coaches, weโre proud of every single player. All the hard work is really starting to shine through.
Well done tonight, girls โ another session absolutely smashed! ๐ช๐โฝ๐ค๐๐ค๐

Our last 7v7 game before moving to 9v9 next week, and what a great way to finish this stage of our season.
The girls made their best start to a game so far, full of energy, focus, and teamwork. Everyone worked hard from the first whistle, showing how much progress has been made over the last couple of months.
The energy did drop a little in the second half, which is understandable with no subs and Eliza being unwell. Even so, the girls kept going and stayed positive until the end.
A couple of new players have joined the team and are ready to start with us next week as we make the move to 9v9. Thereโs still some work to do on how we want the girls to play, particularly around keeping the ball safe and making good decisions under pressure, but thatโs exactly what this next step is about.
Sometimes itโs easy to forget just how hard these girls have to work. The effort, focus, and determination they show every week can be taken for granted, but itโs what makes their progress so impressive. Every game and training session adds another layer of experience, and itโs brilliant to see how much theyโre learning.

Finding space and being an option for teammates.
Keeping possession with quicker, safer passing and better movement off the ball.

A brilliant first half with great teamwork, effort, and communication.
The girls are really starting to understand their positions and link up play.
A strong finish to 7v7 football and a great foundation for next weekโs move to 9v9.

Every single player deserves credit today. Each of them played some of their best football yet, showing real teamwork and determination. A brilliant collective effort.
A big thank you to our parents for the continued support and encouragement each week.

Unfortunately, todayโs opposition didnโt turn up, so there was no match played.
A big thank you to all our parents for making the trip this morning and for your continued support. We really appreciate the effort, especially when mornings like this end up being wasted.
A special thank you to Madison for getting up early and stepping in as goalkeeper. Sorry for the wasted trip, but we really appreciate the effort.
And thank you to all the girls for turning up ready to play. Itโs a shame we didnโt get a game today, but weโll regroup and look forward to seeing everyone back at training on Friday.
