What feels am I working on here?
Really enjoying practice at the moment. Still a long ways off where I need to be but building in some much more repeatable patterns 🏌️♂️
Block by block, I might have a golf game again by the end of the year 😂

Most golfers think their swing path controls the shot… but here’s the truth:
👉 Your clubface at impact is the REAL boss.
If your clubface isn’t aligned with your intended start line, it doesn’t matter how “perfect” your swing feels — the ball is going somewhere you didn’t plan.
Top coaches like TrackMan educators and PGA professionals consistently agree:
✔️ Clubface angle controls ~75–85% of a ball’s starting direction (this will vary slightly depending on the loft)
✔️ Swing path influences curvature — but only relative to the face
So what does that mean for you?
⚠️ The mistake most players make?
They try to “swing the shape” without matching the clubface to it.
That’s like steering a car with the wheels pointing one way and the body moving another — chaos.
💡 The key:
Your club’s direction of motion (path) and clubface angle must WORK TOGETHER — not fight each other.
Next time you practice:
Don’t just rehearse your swing…
Train your impact.
Because the ball only listens to ONE moment — and that’s the truth at impact.
Do you want a stable clubface? Then you must understand what helps control it… Your elbows.
If your trail elbow flies, your clubface gets unpredictable. If your lead elbow collapses, you lose structure—and control.
Elite ball strikers don’t “manipulate” the face…They build a motion where the elbows work together to stabilize it.
✔️ Trail elbow: stays connected, works under
✔️ Lead elbow: maintains structure through impact
Get this right, and suddenly the clubface isn’t something you fix… it’s something you own.
Control the elbows → control the face → control the ball.
Next time you’re on the range, don’t think hands… think elbows.

Most golfers obsess over the backswing… but the truth? Your score is decided in a split second: impact.
Impact is the moment the clubface meets the ball — and it’s the only thing that actually matters. Not your takeaway. Not how “pretty” your swing looks. Just this one collision.
1. Clubface Control - The King 👑
The clubface angle at impact largely dictates where your ball starts. Launch monitor data (like TrackMan) shows it influences up to 85% of starting direction.➡️ Goal: Match up the face for your intended start line relative to your path.
2. Forward Shaft Lean - Compression 💥
Great iron players deliver the hands ahead of the ball, delofting the club and compressing it against the turf.
➡️ This creates that crisp strike, lower launch, and higher spin control you see from pros.
3. Low Point Control - Strike First, Then Turf 🌱
With irons, the club should strike the ball before the ground.
➡️ Your low point should be just in front of the ball, not behind it.This is the difference between a pure strike and a heavy/fat shot.
4. Weight & Pressure Shift - Power Source ⚖️
At impact, around 70–90% of pressure should be on your lead side.
➡️ This stabilizes the strike and allows consistent contact.
5. Path Relationship - Start Line + Curve 🎯
Your swing path works with the clubface to control curvature.
➡️ Face slightly closed to path = draw
➡️ Face slightly open to path = fade
So instead of asking, “How’s my swing?”Start asking, “What does my impact look like?”
Because when you fix impact… everything else falls into place.

Pivot & leverage improving path, speed & strike 🏌️♂️
Not long until evening golf is here 🏌️♂️ who else is looking forward to the after work 9 holes?
🚨 Struggling with fat or thin shots? This is why.
It’s not your hands.
It’s not your tempo.
It’s your LOW POINT DEPTH. 🎯
Here had a significant gain of height during back swing and loss of height during impact leading to inconsistent strikes 🏌️♂️ This drill allowed us to reduce vertical emotion and gain more control of low point depth.
Here’s what most golfers miss 👇
⬆️ Gain too much height in the downswing?
→ Low point shifts up
→ Thin strikes
⬇️ Drop too much height?
→ Low point bottoms out early
→ Fat strikes
The best players maintain their posture and control their vertical movement so the club strikes ball first, turf second. That’s compression. That’s consistency.

The shank isn’t random… and it’s NOT bad luck. 😳
If you’ve ever hit that dreaded hosel rocket, you know the feeling. But according to leading coaches like Butch Harmon, Hank Haney, and Sean Foley, a shank is almost always a face-to-path and strike location problem — not a mystery.
Here’s what’s really happening:
👉 You’re delivering the hosel to the ball.
That usually means that the club head moves closer to the ball in transition often caused by instability in posture or your arms throw out toward it in the downswing.
👉 Your weight shift is off balance.
Depending where your pressure moves during the weight shift there will be various compensations or a reach of your arms so the club moves outward — hello, hosel.
👉 Your handle stalls.
When the body gets stuck and arms take over the hands flip, the clubhead passes too far away from you.
How to never hit another one:
✔️ Feel pressure in the balls of your feet, not your heel or toes.
✔️ Maintain posture — keep your chest down through impact.
✔️ Engage against the ground don’t throw your hands at the ball.
The drill shown in this video is a great way to train your awareness. If you’re hitting shanks often, we all know the headspace you are in, it’s not fun. Training awareness/skill is a great way to turn off those technical thoughts, hitting the ball on the inside of the ball you’ve addressed is an easier instruction for your body to compute.
The shank isn’t a curse. It’s feedback. And once you understand the pattern, you can eliminate it for good.

Some speed work for 🏌️♂️
With the 9 iron clubhead speed in the low 70’s there was a big potential to increase energy output. We needed to start from the ground up & engage against the creating more torque through his turn
Adding in twice as much space for a pressure shift we were able to transfer the torque into club head speed resulting in a 10mph gain with plenty more left in the tank. Flying the 9 iron another 20 yards in the air is a nice bonus too 💪
