The regular Zoom Broomstick crew met in person and competed yesterday! This photo is a great representation of what we do online...mostly look at pets and hold sticks... . The quality of lifts was absurdly good and I'm proud of them and proud of my small part in that.

7 steps to an easy squat... Day 4                    .
Step 4 – Front Rack Bridge... get into your hip thrust/bridge position and place your hands with palms down flat behind your shoulders, then push the hips up – try 3x10...                    .
Pro tips and adjustments- if the back arches when you get the hands in place work on keeping it down, if you find it hard to keep the palms flat work on driving the elbows up...but over time and practise you’ll improve both...                    .

7 steps to an easy squat... Day 3                    .
Step 3 – Squat challenge...start in your deep squat with heels on the floor, then walk the hands out in front until your heels are 2cm-1 inch off the floor, now try to stretch to get the heels down without moving the hands...try 3 sets of 30 seconds.                    .
Pro tips and adjustments- relax to make space for your body to move into, don’t force it or you’ll just tense up, if you can’t get the heels down don’t stress...just get as far as you can and note how it feels.                    .

7 steps to an easy squat... Day 2                    .
Step 2 - Frontal raise into skull crusher and squat. This one is fantastic for lengthening the spine, mobilising the shoulders and finding space to make your front rack feel good. Try 10 frontal raises, 5 standing Skull Crushers and 2 squats...                    .
Pro tips and adjustments- don’t let the spine arch – keep the hips tucked under so when you raise your arms overhead you will stretch the thoracic spine rather than arching into position. Look for length and range. Pay attention to how things feel – check in and be mindful.                    .

7 steps to an easy squat...                      .
This week I’m breaking down an incredibly effective warm up focusing on the spine, shoulders, lats and hips requiring no equipment and minimal time. 1 step per day, by day 7 you’ll have a whole routine that will make your squat, rack and overhead positions feel amazing.                    .
Step 1 – hip rotation into spine and lat stretch – pivot forward from the hip focusing on pushing the hips up high, get the hands flat on the floor then push through the floor to lengthen and open the spine and scapula (careful not to shrug the shoulders) you’re looking for 5-7 reps here. Then walk the hands in front of the feet and push the head through the elbows to get into the lats and hamstrings.                    .
Pro tips and adjustments- if you can’t reach the floor you can bend the knees a little, or use a cushion or blocks to place the hands on. If your hamstrings are tight when you go into the lat stretch then walk your hands further forward. Most of all don’t rush or push too aggressively into the stretch..find your end range then pull back slightly and relax into the space you’ve created, this is a better way to progress.                    .
If you want to improve your squat or lifts with specific programming and training get in touch and find out about our awesome little team!
