Gortilea Social Farm CIC Gortilea Social Farm represents an exciting new learning approach through animals and nature. Animal care- Sheep, Cows, Pigs, Horses and Dog.

Participants are presented with the opportunity of being a day farmer in a supportive environment to encourage them, regardless of ability and academic attainment, to discover and achieve tasks that they may have previously believed was out of their reach. We support individuals with learning difficulties/mental health problems through farm based activities. through the use of activity analysis, assessment of function, collaborative goal setting and grading of activities Gortilea Social Farm provides a different intervention approach. We provide participants with the opportunity to gain new skills and a possible accrediated qualification. Our fully trained staff support participants to reach their goals in what ever this may be. Our on site Occupational Therapist has gained qualifications in literacy and numeracy through farm based activities as well as hippotherapy (horse therapy). A typical day can vary on the farm and is very much tailored to meet the needs of the individual participant, activities can include:

Horticulture- poly tunnel activities, planting flowers and trees. Cookery
Baking
Community integration
Socialisation
Activities of Daily Living
Training opportunities
Support to employment. Please feel free to request an information pack if you feel this is something which may be of interest to you.

Delighted to have two posters accepted for presentation at the HETI International Congress in Prague. What a great opportunity to share our work at Gortilea and my current research at Ulster University. It was lovely to connect with international researchers and learn from the work being carried out across the world. Added bonus was definitely seeing this beautiful city!

A number of Destined members have recently completed the 'Roots to recovery' programme through Gortilea Social Farm CIC. During their 6 weeks at the farm they crafted these beautiful benches for our Feeny Centre. We are delighted with them thank you to George, Tamara, Kevin and Owen for all your hard work, and to Clare for facilitating.

What a great few days at the farm and equine centre. So inspiring to connect with like minded people from across NI and ROI — it really shows the energy and dedication in this space. Can’t wait to see where these new collaborations lead!

Thank you to Kyle (aldertree equine), Monique and Omagh RDA for your great contributions. Thank you to RAPID for the use of your facilities to continue our discussions and to Star bakes by Gemma for the beautiful food on both days.

The Be Wild Programme is funded by DCSDC.
