After two disappointing results in the YEL boys league, and having never lost 3 consecutive games on the bounce, today’s away game against Borrowash Youth Jaguar had added pressure for the girls and coaches.
Despite this the message before the game was simple.. Do the basics, keep your shape, work hard and start the game fast and that’s exactly what the girls did.
Juliette was not particularly busy in the first half, but crucially when it mattered she was ready, and made a brilliant save which kept us in the game when the score was still 0-0.
Eva seemed to be back to her confident self, holding the back line and being strong in the tackle. Pleasingly her composure returned in the right moments and she looked to play out from the back along the floor when possible.
Isla and Jessie controlled the midfield. Isla naturally sitting in a CDM role, provided support to Eva defensively, but got on the ball when possible and looked to find the simple pass sideways or forward. Jessie constantly on the move and looking for the ball, provided good moments of linking up with the wide and forward players.
Maddie, Carmen and Lily displayed some excellent wing play. Being positive and direct, getting us up the field, and then producing some brilliant balls into the box which we just couldn’t capitalise on, until Carmen found Jessie on the edge of the box to score a brilliant goal from distance just before half time! ⚽️🙌🏻
Ayda and Hope lead the front line and worked very hard. Although the opportunities in the final third were limited to half chances their desire to close down their defenders and press from goal kicks was very much noticed.
Going in 1-0 up at half time was thoroughly deserved, and although the girls were very pleased with themselves we asked if the levels could be raised another 5/10% and again the girls produced.
Second half the girls largely dominated. The boys couldn’t deal with our movement, passing and desire to win the ball back in turnovers. The girls tracking back, locking on defensively, and then counter attacking quickly resulted in us creating a lot of chances which tested their very good goalkeeper.
The continuous pressure eventually paid off, when Ayda worked her way through a couple of defenders in a tight space to find Maddie at the back post who slotted home with her weaker right foot! ⚽️🙌🏻
The girls in full flow eventually added a third when this weeks player of the match Lily hit a sweet strike from the edge of the box from a Maddie pass which rifled into the bottom left hand corner giving the keeper no chance! ⚽️🙌🏻
A really pleasing performance which not only showed what the girls could do in the final third in front of goal, but also illustrated their workrate defensively doing the ugly side of the game! We also recieved some really positive comments from the Borrowash’s coaches in regards to our workrate, passing and style of play. 🙌🏻
This 3-0 win means coaches Bish and Danny keep their jobs heading into the international break!
Here’s hoping our season kicks on from this! Bring on the next game! ⚽️⚪️⚫️🐦⬛💪🏻🙌🏻 ❤️
