FULL TIME | SOUTH REGION CHALLENGE CUP
Cowdenbeath Central 3–0 Ormiston Primrose

Cowdenbeath Central progressed to the next round of the South Region Challenge Cup with a convincing 3–0 victory over Ormiston Primrose at Venters Park.

Central produced a strong team performance, controlling large spells of the game while remaining disciplined defensively to secure another clean sheet.
Three goals in quick succession before the break put Central firmly in control.

Brandyn Coventry opened the scoring after some excellent play down the right-hand side released Ryan Yapoudjian one-on-one with the Ormiston full-back. Ryan got the better of his man before cutting the ball back to Coventry on the edge of the box, who calmly guided his finish into the far corner.

Shortly afterwards, it was Kris Kelly causing problems on the opposite flank. Kelly cut inside before getting his shot away, with a deflection wrong-footing the goalkeeper and doubling the home side's advantage.

Central added a third right on half-time, with Kelly involved again. He found Glen Young on the overlap, whose cut-back fell perfectly for Connor Spence. The striker made no mistake, continuing his excellent goalscoring run and sending Central into the break 3–0 ahead.

The second half saw Central manage the game well, remaining organised and seeing out the victory to secure their place in the next round.

Manager’s Comments πŸŽ™οΈ

"Really pleased with the boys today. Cup games are all about getting yourself into the next round, and we've managed to do that with a good performance, three goals and a clean sheet.

I thought we controlled large parts of the game and showed good patience when we had the ball.

On a personal note, I'm disappointed to have been dismissed today. I was frustrated with a decision where, in my opinion, we were denied a stonewall penalty for handball. Emotions were running high and I showed my frustration. Regardless of how strongly I felt about the decision, I could have handled the situation better and I apologise to the lads for letting them down in that moment.

We probably could have been a little more clinical with some of the opportunities we created, but overall there are plenty of positives to take from the performance.
It's also pleasing to have three different goalscorers and to keep another clean sheet.

Everyone played their part today and the attitude from the boys was spot on. It's been a good couple of weeks for us, so long may that continue."

⚽ FULL TIME | Cowdenbeath Central 3–1 Fauldhouse United

Cowdenbeath Central secured their first home victory of the season with a 3–1 win over Fauldhouse United at Venters.

Central took the lead from the penalty spot after Kris Kelly produced a clever flick over the Fauldhouse centre-back, with the defender handling the ball and leaving the referee no option but to point to the spot.
Connor Spence stepped up and calmly placed his penalty into the bottom corner to give Central the lead.

1–0 ⚽ Spence

Cowdenbeath continued to create opportunities, with Spence coming closest to doubling the advantage. A good delivery from Glen Young picked out the striker inside the box, but his downward header somehow landed safely in the goalkeeper's arms.

Spence wouldn't be denied for long, though, and grabbed his second just before half-time β€” again from the penalty spot.

The striker latched onto a through ball before the advancing goalkeeper committed himself and brought Spence down inside the area. Spence picked himself up and this time smashed the penalty into the top corner.

The second half followed a similar pattern, with neither side creating too many clear-cut opportunities.
With 15 minutes remaining, Central put the game beyond doubt after some superb football through the midfield. Brandyn Coventry timed a fantastic run in behind and was picked out with an excellent through ball. Coventry kept his composure, rounded the goalkeeper and rolled the ball into the empty net.

3–0 ⚽ Coventry

Fauldhouse pulled one back with around ten minutes remaining when a long ball caught out the Central back line, allowing the forward to fire a fierce effort from distance into the bottom corner.

3–1 ⚽ Fauldhouse United

Central tightened things up defensively in the closing stages, managed the remainder of the game well and saw out the victory to claim all three points

πŸ—£οΈ Manager's Comments

"It wasn't our best performance of the season, but it's an important three points and that's always the aim.
We'll play better than that and lose games this season, so we'll take days like today every Saturday as long as we're picking up the points.

We set high standards for ourselves and, in all honesty, I don't think we quite met them today. The boys know what we expect from them, though, and it's good to see the character within the changing room and the players accepting those expectations.

Most importantly, it's our first home win of the season and another three points on the board."

⭐ Man of the Match β€” Connor Spence

For the second game running, Spenny takes the Man of the Match award after another excellent contribution, including two goals from the spot.
Well done, Spenny! πŸ‘βš½βš½
