Last night our mixed doubles team played in the second round of the Mackenzie Shield at home against Bridgnorth - the defending champions.

We had a great night of tennis but Bridgnorth showed their quality, winning all four rubbers, despite our best efforts.

A big thank you to all of our players - Logan, Jackie, Sally-Anne and Ryan who put up a great fight, and to Bridgnorth for being such great sports. We wish them all the best in the rest of the tournament and we’re hoping they emerge as the champions once more 🏆

Thanks again to all of our home supporters for coming out to watch and cheer us on.

For anyone who wishes to play competitive mixed doubles, we have a practice night every Tuesday at 6.30pm. It would be great to see you on court!

🏆 Coach’s Competition

The annual Coach’s Competition took place today, with Bickerton kindly hosting this year’s event.

Teams from Audlem (with some support from Malpas), Wrenbury and Woore joined the Bickerton team on court to battle it out over three rounds of mixed doubles.

Congratulations to Wrenbury, who came out on top, with Woore putting in a fantastic performance to take a well-deserved second place. 👏

A huge thank you to Alex Mullins for organising the competition, and to the Bickerton team for their fantastic hospitality and hosting.

Special thanks also to Jackie, Tom T, Chris, Diana, Sally-ann and Jason for representing the club and giving it their all! 💪

We may not have brought the trophy home this time… but next time, it’s coming home with us! 🏆😉

Last night we held the third of our Special Club Nights and wow what a turnout!

Our members thoroughly enjoyed an evening of tennis and pickleball, which was followed up with fish and chips from Zoom Fish Bar. This coupled with the club bar resulting in a packed out clubhouse and terrace which was great to see. Bellies full, tennis and pickleball resumed for some, while most chose to observe and continue to enjoy the hospitality.

A big thank you to everyone who came to support the club and to everyone involved in putting on such a great event. Special thanks must go to Harold who worked incredibly hard coaching on the pickleball courts and to Jackie and Phil who oversaw the logistics of feeding everyone.

Next up we have finals weekend on 12th & 13th September - please see the WhatsApp comms channel and your emails for more information.

The ladies played at home last night against Wem in their season closer. Our team on the night was made up of Christine & Diana and Sally-Ann & Jackie. After a valiant effort and some good tennis, Wem won 3-1.

A big thank you to all the ladies who have represented WTC across the season. We now turn our minds to the Autumn Mixed League and look forward to another great season of tennis 🎾🎾🎾

Our Men’s 1st team played their final match of the season last night in a rearranged match with Shrewsbury Lawn Tennis Club.

Our team was made up of Ronnie & Logan and Tom Parker & Zak. Both teams got off to a great start winning their first rubbers in straight sets. Zak and Tom continued with a second rubber won in straight sets but Ronnie & Logan had more of a challenge, making a comeback after dropping the initial set of the match. They then came back from 5-1 down in a championship tiebreak to win the match 10-8.

The team will finish the season in 2nd and will gain promotion to division 5. Well done to all players who’ve represented the club this year and we look forward to the next.

And just like that, the 2nd team’s season is over 🎾🏆🍻

Our men’s 2nd team played at Hollies last night, coming away with a 2-2 draw. Ryan & Jon and Mark & Chris played for WTC. It was great to see Mark and Chris playing, as both have recently recovered from injuries. They both managed to remain largely unscathed, however Mark did come away with a black eye … we will say no more about that 😂

Our team were uncatchable at the top of the table, so the pressure was off, but Hollies appeared determined to claim a few points, playing some truly top class tennis throughout the night and making the whole match very close indeed.

Thank you to Hollies for hosting and for post match refreshments and an extra big thank you to everyone who has played for the team across the season, helping to secure our promotion and an extra bit of silverware to add to the clubhouse.

Ryan (Men’s Captain)
