Crieff Alpacas

What a great job does..she came to do our boys afterwards.

Alpacas get shorn each year. Their fine wool is highly sought after being warmer than sheep’s wool and without lanolin making it hypoallergenic. Jackie - the alpaca shearer helped teach us the basics of alpaca shearing. The key to shearing is to make sure the alpacas are calm, relaxed and stress free. This helps the muscles relax and makes it easier to find the contours of the body. Not to mention the fact that a wriggling animal is very difficult to shear. To this end, Jackie designed a unique board and her husband made it for her. It allows the alpacas to be stretched out comfortably and in a relaxed manner. The shearing took next to no time and and as you can see … the girls were lining up for their turn with the hairdresser! 😀

Another 2 rescue alpacas joined us last week; Freddie and Casper. The boys are settling in well now that the herd-order is established.
