Crosshouse U14 V Drumsagard Black
A tough ask on paper today for Crosshouse Community FC U14 against an always challenging Drumsagard Black side, with both teams involved in a very physical but fair contest.
From the first whistle, the girls knew they were going to have to work hard, and both groups showed plenty of grit, determination and commitment throughout the game.
Crosshouse’s defence took a little time to settle, but once they found their rhythm early in the first half, they showed exactly why this team is so difficult to break down. Strong challenges, good positioning and plenty of communication helped keep Drumsagard at bay, with some excellent goalkeeping when called upon adding another layer of protection.
As the first half progressed, the midfield and attack started to find their feet. The passing became calmer, the movement sharper and Crosshouse began to create some really good opportunities, eventually breaking the deadlock with a well-taken goal.
Playing on a very short pitch brought its own challenges, but the girls adapted brilliantly. There were some lovely passages of calm football, with quick and intelligent passing movements that came straight from Thursday’s training session. It’s fantastic to see things worked on during training being taken straight into a competitive game.
The goals were all taken really well, but just as pleasing was the build-up play behind them. There were moments where the football was so good that parents were cheering individual players for their movement, passing and decision-making — exactly the kind of football we want to see from this group.
A physical, competitive and challenging game, but one where the girls showed character, adapted to the conditions and continued to play their football.
