Back to winning ways for Cumbernauld!
On Sunday we hosted Strathearn United in the third league game of the season. The game kicked off and Cumbernauld took control of the ball early with some neat passing. Cumbernauld took an early lead after 9 minutes when a through ball from Gary Tippell found Cameron Ross to power into the box and slide the ball beyond the oncoming keeper, 1-0 Cumbernauld.
Cumbernauld continued to press on and even though when half time came around still at 1-0, Strathearn were holding on with some resolute defending.

Cumbernauld started the second half where they left off looking for the second goal, however in the 62nd minute the Strathearn forward slipped round the Cumbernauld defence and won a very contentious penalty with the referee deciding the foul happened inside the box.
Up stepped the Strathearn forward to calmly put the keeper the wrong way to make it 1-1.
Now with the game firmly in the balance, both sides continued to look to take the lead in the game and with around 10 minutes left Cumbernauld found the break through. After a good break forward Cameron Ross hit a blocked shot for the ball to break back to Cumbernauld’s wee Welsh tractor, Lee Murray to collect the blocked shot, skip by the defender and d**k the ball over the on rushing keeper. (Yes it is also Lee that writes the match reports. Could you tell?) 2-1 Cumbernauld.
2 quickly became 3 when after a through ball from Jony Taylor found Graham Gardner 1 on 1 with the keeper and he expertly slid the ball by him to get a well deserved goal, 3-1 Cumbernauld.
Then just like buses when 1 arrives, Cumbernauld got the fourth goal when Ewan Walsh, who was excellent again today, slid Jony Taylor through the Strathearn defence for Jony to smash the ball into the far corner of the goal, 4-1 Cumbernauld.
Strathearn completed the scoring in a chaotic last 10 minutes after their striker rounded Cumbernauld’s out running keeper and finished into the open goal.
Final score 4-2 to Cumbernauld and back to winning ways. Well played to Strathearn United and all the best with the season ahead.
Refs man of the match was Cameron Ross.
