Another fantastic win for our Development side and another brilliant day for the future of Pontnewydd United! 💚💛

A comfortable performance from the boys against a rigid Albion Rovers side who made life difficult for us at times, but we stayed patient, played our football and ultimately came away with another deserved victory.

⚽ Marc Putnam opened the scoring with a lovely finish inside the box to give us the lead.

⚽ Charlie Burlow — the 16-year-old substitute — doubled our advantage after the break following some excellent trickery inside the box before calmly finding the net.

⚽ Euan Yates-Pattimore made it three with a superbly struck free-kick from outside the area, leaving the goalkeeper with no chance.

⚽ Jordan Roebuck-Roberts, another 16-year-old, latched onto a ball over the top before keeping his composure to find the back of the net and seal another excellent away-day victory.

Another four goals, another clean sheet and another three points for the Development side. 👏

The future is certainly bright at Pontnewydd United, and the boys continue to show exactly what can happen when you give young players the opportunity to test themselves in adult football.

It’s the Development team up first this week as we make the short trip to Newport to take on Albion Rovers FC Newport Development Team at Kimberley Park.

For many of our youth players, tonight marks their first away day in senior football, with a stern test awaiting against a strong Albion Rovers side.

Originally scheduled for Saturday, the fixture was rescheduled to tonight — but the objective remains the same. Another positive performance, another positive result, and keep the unbeaten run going. 💪

We’d love to see as many supporters as possible make the trip and get behind the lads. Your support on the road is massively appreciated! 👏

Pontnewydd United 2-5 Brynmawr United FC

A frustrating afternoon for the First Team as we fall to a 5-2 defeat against a very strong Brynmawr United.

The first half commenced between two sides who know each other very well and it was an evenly contested opening 20 minutes. As we started to gain a foothold in the game, Brynmawr found a way through from a free kick which was excellently struck, although we’ll probably question the decision to award it in the first place! 😂

We continued to battle, but another mistake was punished and suddenly we found ourselves 2-0 down.

The game remained a proper battle and Brynmawr added a third with a fantastic finish to put themselves in a commanding position.

However, we refused to lie down. On the stroke of half time, Isaac Henry was in the right place at the right time to tap home and give us a lifeline going into the break.

Half Time: Pontnewydd 1-3 Brynmawr

We started the second half brightly and, for a period, were arguably the better side as we looked to get ourselves back into the game.

Unfortunately, another mistake at a key moment was punished by Brynmawr and the visitors extended their advantage, putting the game further out of reach.

We continued to push and eventually found another through some excellent work from Morgan Meredith, which was turned into the net via an own goal.

That gave us a glimmer of hope and there was a period where we continued to hassle and put Brynmawr under pressure.

But late in the game, another costly mistake saw the goalkeeper caught out and Brynmawr punished us once again to make it 5-2.

💭 THE VERDICT

The scoreline certainly doesn’t tell the full story.

Performance-wise, it was there. This was nowhere near a 5-2 game in terms of the overall contest, but the difference today was simple:

Brynmawr were clinical. We made mistakes at key moments.

Against a side of Brynmawr’s quality, you simply can’t give them those opportunities — and today they punished us when we did.

Credit to Brynmawr, who took their chances and battled throughout. We’d like to thank them for the game, the battle and the hospitality after the final whistle. 🤝

An absolute rock at the back today. Won duel after duel, put his body on the line and led from the front throughout.

A performance that certainly didn’t deserve to be on the losing side. 💚

Liam Doughton — who, for a period of the first half, genuinely looked like he was playing for Brynmawr! 😂🙈

OR…

Nick Jenkins — our Development Team gaffer and today’s stand-in goalkeeper, who apparently decided he was capable of throwing out flicks and tricks inside his own box… only to be caught out for the fifth goal. 🤦‍♂️😂

We’ll let the group decide. 👀

One defeat doesn’t change what this group is about.

The weekend brings a huge double header for Pontnewydd United, with both our First Team and Development Team in action at 2:30pm! 💚💛

First up, the First Team return to Camp Newydd as we welcome Brynmawr United — a side we know extremely well after going toe-to-toe for the Division Two title last season.

We’re expecting another tough encounter, with Brynmawr arriving in sensational form. The visitors are yet to be breached this season, winning all four of their league games, scoring an incredible 24 goals in the process while conceding ZERO. 😳

The lads will be determined to put Tuesday night’s disappointment behind them and get back to winning ways, but they know they need to be better than Tuesday if they’re going to take all three points.

It’s also a big day for our Development Team, who travel to Albion Rovers looking to continue their incredible 100% record in adult football. 💪

The youngsters face an Albion Rovers side who are yet to register a league victory this season, but make no mistake — this will be a completely different challenge.

For the first time, our young lads will experience the test of playing away from home in senior football, bringing a whole new set of challenges. It’s another opportunity for the boys to learn, compete and show just how far they’ve come.

Pontnewydd United are delighted to announce the double signing of Max Rees and Max Tucker ahead of the new season! 💚💛

🟢 Max Rees

A player the club have been chasing for some time, Max Rees brings a fantastic blend of technical ability, quality on the ball and strong defensive attributes to the squad.

Max possesses a very gifted left foot and has valuable experience at Ardal South East level, having spent a number of years with Croesyceiliog AFC.

We’re delighted to finally get this one over the line and can’t wait to see Max showcase his quality in the green and yellow! ✍️💚

Joining us alongside Max is another former Croesyceiliog AFC player, Max Tucker.

An energetic, all-action attacking midfielder who can also operate out wide, Max brings bags of energy, enthusiasm and quality on the ball.

Max is also no stranger to Pontnewydd, having enjoyed a brief spell with the club around three years ago. Although that spell was short-lived, we’re delighted to welcome him back home and give him another opportunity to pull on the Pontnewydd shirt! 💚💛

Both additions bring further quality, versatility and experience to an already competitive squad, and we’re excited to see what they can produce throughout the season.

🟢🟡 MATCH PREVIEW | Maesglas AFC Reserves vs Pontnewydd United Development

Attention now turns to our Development Team tonight as they look to maintain their 100% win record in Newport & District Division One with a stern away test against Maesglas AFC Reserves.

The youngsters head into tonight’s fixture full of confidence after an impressive start to life in adult football. With two wins from two, the Development side remain unbeaten and will be looking to continue that momentum — but tonight brings a new challenge as they make their first away trip of the season. 🚍⚽️

Standing in their way is a strong Maesglas side who come into this season as league champions from last year, so we know exactly how tough a test awaits our young squad.

After last night’s disappointment for the First Team, it’s now over to the Development Team to bring some positivity back to the club during our midweek fixtures. 💪

Another opportunity for the youngsters to test themselves against a strong senior side and show that they belong at this level.

🟢🟡 FULL TIME | Fairfield United A.F.C 3-1 Pontnewydd United

Possibly our worst performance of the season for our first team from start to finish sees us fall to a 3-1 defeat against a high-flying Fairfield United AFC.

A lacklustre start saw us take the lead through a Ryan Smith free-kick, which looped over the goalkeeper from distance. However, despite taking the lead, we failed to raise our levels and were pegged back just nine minutes later as Fairfield found an equaliser.

Further mistakes followed and we gifted Fairfield a second goal, which really changed the complexion of the game. From there, we lacked the ideas and inventiveness that have been a big part of our game, giving the ball away cheaply and moving completely away from our usual style of football.

The second half started a little better, and the game remained in the balance as we searched for an equaliser. We had a glorious one-on-one opportunity to get ourselves back into it, but unfortunately couldn’t take it.

Just 30 seconds later, the ball ended up in our own net to effectively hand Fairfield all three points.

Credit where it’s due — Fairfield were better than us all over the park and deserved winners. 👏

For us, though, it has to be better. We know the standards we’re capable of and, collectively, we need to raise them if we’re going to achieve anything positive this season.

We’ll dust ourselves down and go again.

Our attention now turns to another huge game on Saturday at home against Brynmawr United, a side we battled with for the title last season. Another big test and another opportunity to put things right. 💪

🟢🟡 MATCH PREVIEW | FIRST TEAM 🟡🟢

Fairfield United AFC 🆚 Pontnewydd United

Pontnewydd United First Team are back in action tomorrow night as we hit the road to face Fairfield United AFC at The Ravine Ground.

Fairfield have made a flying start to the season and currently sit top of the table, making this another huge test for the Newydd.

There’s plenty of familiarity between the two sides, having faced Fairfield twice last season in Division Two. Pontnewydd came out on top on both occasions, completing the double without conceding a single goal. 👊

However, tomorrow provides a much sterner test. Fairfield appear to have strengthened over the summer and their early-season form shows exactly why they are currently leading the division. Add home advantage into the equation and we know the lads will have to be at their very best.

The boys come into the game fresh after a weekend off, with Saturday’s fixture away at Alway FC being postponed. They’ll be determined to get back to winning ways following last Tuesday’s disappointing defeat to Aberbargoed Buds.

It’s another big game, another tough away trip and another opportunity to show what this Pontnewydd side is all about. 💪
