Congratulations to the Duffield family who took part in races at the Western League held at the Mendips Raceway on Sunday. Rowena won the V40 ladies, Jess came 2nd in the U12, and Ross and Daisy were fantastic in their races. Unfortunately Lowri Goodwin had a puncture in her race which left her unable to finish. Well done everyone, doing the club and yourselves proud πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘ #CwmcarnParagon #Paragoonies #CX #CycloCross #CycloCrossRace #MendipsRaceway

Hi Folks, @davidajohn Had a lot of fun last Sunday watching and photographing round 1 of this year's Welsh Cyclo-Cross League at Tredegar Park in Newport, organised by @cwmcarn_paragon. Here's a small sample of images from the men's senior race.

I've tried to tag in each club/sponsor (where I could still see your jersey colours under the mud anyway!).

If you're reading this and you were competing in the race, David may have photos of you that you're welcome to have. Just let him know your club/sponsor/colours and I'll see what he has got. Head over to our Instagram account to find David there.

Thanks for putting on a show in those conditions and good luck to everyone competing in round 2 at Builth Wells this weekend!

For those of you that do not know, the gentleman on the top of the podium here is Mr David Salway. David’s son Huw, is one of our fantastic members. David came to cycling in his mid 70’s, when he was living in Portugal and joined a local club for social rides mostly with younger riders. He lives near Chepstow now and is in the Chepstow cycling club and does club runs with them when the weather is okay. He did ride as a young man in Blackwood with the CTC in the 1950’s but only did a bit for pleasure very occasionally after that, then he started riding about 7-8 years ago.
A couple of years ago he won the age group national pursuit title which was 1500m, thus was at the masters nationals at Newport velodrome. He was 79 at the time, a few weeks later he had a bad crash at the track breaking his pelvis. It was a complicated one requiring major surgery and a long recovery. Huw feared that David would not be able to come back from that as he could not walk properly and still struggles to this day with mobility. Anyway, with encouragement from Jason Streather from PDQ Cycle coaching he is back at it and training properly on the turbo and on the track. David has now won these two titles at the BMCR track champs last weekend and furthermore, on the weekend of 14th December he’s going for the national masters in the pursuit. Huw joked that if he can do that when he gets to almost 82 he will be very happy! Good luck in December Mr Salway πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘πŸ‘
