Important update from Barking Sporthouse!
After 13 years of welcoming skateboarders from across Barking and Dagenham, the indoor skate park at Barking Sporthouse will close on Sunday 2 August 2026 as part of a £2 million programme to modernise the centre and create even more opportunities for local people to get active.
While this wasn't an easy decision, use of the skate park has declined significantly in recent years. The space will now be transformed into Barking and Dagenham's first permanent indoor padel courts, bringing the UK's fastest-growing sport to the borough for the very first time.
Further improvements will see the popular Clip 'n Climb relocated within the main play area, while the sports hall is being redesigned to house six permanent badminton courts and three dedicated pickleball courts, creating an improved experience for families visiting the centre.🏸
Skateboarding will continue to be available across the borough, with nine free outdoor skateparks in Barking and Dagenham, as well as nearby Rom Skatepark. We're also exploring opportunities to donate the skate park's ramps and equipment so they can continue to benefit the local community.
We'd like to thank everyone who has used and supported the indoor skate park over the past decade, and we look forward to sharing more updates as these exciting improvements take shape.🙏
