Woodlane Ishinryu Karate Club

Two sisters. Two journeys. One destination.

Congratulations to sisters Phoebe (10) and Luna (7), who both passed their karate gradings this week with excellent performances.

Phoebe has recently started to train in our general class, ready to challenge herself and continue progressing on her karate journey. Luna is loving life in our Dragons class, where learning karate goes hand in hand with the fun and laughter.

There isn't just one path to success in karate. Some children are eager to push themselves with new challenges, while others thrive by building confidence, making friends, and enjoying every lesson. Both paths lead to the same destination.

We're incredibly proud of both girls and look forward to watching their journeys continue together.

A sad farewell to two valued students

Sometimes our club feels like a family, and like any family we hate to say goodbye.

Abigail and Lawson have been part of our Dragons team for a while now, but a move abroad means they can no longer attend. All of us at Woodlane wish them all possible happiness in their new home and hope they get the opportunity to continue their Karate Journey.

Very hot in our Dojo last night, so only a few Dragons were training in ‘Summer’ gear in our class.

Congratulations to Satara!

Satara graded to 8th Kyu Yellow Stripe yesterday evening. She gained a well deserved 1st class pass in a very thorough grading that saw her challenge every other Dragon in Kumite. This will be our last club grading for a few weeks now - anyone ready to grade during June and July will need to attend the Summer Course.

Well done Satara and well done to all our Dragons who trained last night.

A special welcome to Millie, who joined our team this week. Looking forward to seeing her in Gi and badges very soon.

A few of our Dragons brought their medals and certificates along from Saturday (not everyone remembered) but all of them brought their energy and enthusiasm last night. A good session.

It's just over two weeks to go until our first ever inter-club ISHINRYU DRAGONS CHAMPIONSHIP.

50 Dragons from across our clubs will come together on May 30 at the Woodlane Dojo to compete for medals, for glory, and for the sheer excitement and fun of competing.

Bookings are now closed - we already have 50 of our Dragons booked. Those of you who are booked will be receiving links to payment very soon.

WHAT’S NEXT?

ALL our Dragons need to enter our next competition on Saturday May 30th. It’s Ishinryu only, and we look forward to meeting and greeting our fellow Ishinryu clubs to compete with us at the large hall in the Woodlane Dojo. The event will feature Kickmaster, Kata, team Kata and Kumite. Get booked now to be part of it.

First steps for our newer Woodlane Dragons

Congratulations to Maryam, Manha, Jo and Adomas on passing their first Ishinryu grading to 10th Kyu yesterday evening.

Part of our 2026 intake, all four started training with our Dragons this year and all are looking good with their new Red Stripe belts and Diplomas. Well done all.

Well done Luna - our April student of the month.

Her growing confidence and her willingness to get involved in all aspects of Dragons training won her this award. Luna will be entering her first ever Open Competition next week and we look forward to seeing her perform her Kata at the KDF event in Dagenham.
