The girls ground out the match with 9 players from half time, a physical game made tougher by poor management from the referee - but despite the injuries and player problems the girls dug deep and finished 2-0.

Team debutant Jenkinson was unlucky to not make the scoresheet in the second half, but displayed a welcome threat up front.

Defensive play stood out with notable performances from Reid, Woodliffe and captain L Williams, as well as a robust stint in defence from usual striker Taylor. Knights put in a shift before coming off injured, as did C Valgolio. - but players choice POTM went to L Valgolio, our No1 who made some key saves, good distribution and remained positive from the back of the field all match.

The 18’s met a physical Durham this morning, playing on a newly opened 3G. They attacked the game well, with a little help from our U17 girls who played remarkably well alongside them. Lots of energy, lots of attacking threat and a notable improvement in passing play.

Durham didn’t get on the score sheet until 35 minutes in, and we went into HT 1-0. At 85 minutes we found ourselves 3-0 down until Amy Dowson was brought down in the box drawing a penalty. She dispatched it calmly - flat and wide into the left corner of the net. 3-1 FT

Our player of the match, voted by the girls themselves, was our left back Inga Leonard. Small but mighty, she defended with spirit and attacked with grit - well played Inga.

Big thank you to our Quaker sisters, Amy Dowson, A’alayah Cummings and Izzy Walker, who stepped up from the U17’s to help out today. Also well done to Erin Williams, whose debut today supported her older sister Lana, our team captain.

Darlington U18s suffer a narrow defeat in their first game of the league season.

In Darlington U18 girls first game together they produced a really strong display away to Gateshead Leam Rangers. Darlington started strong and got an early goal through Grace Taylor. It was a close tie throughout with both teams getting chances but it was later in the 2nd half that Gateshead managed to turn the game winning it with a late goal in the last few minutes.

Player of the match was awarded to both Chiara and Inga with players having good performances.
