Kanghua have upgraded the shoes fitted as standard in our boats. We have always had good feedback on their rowing shoes but these are going to be even better, using the latest breathable and weatherproof fabrics, and sole technology that maximises stability and power transfer. They look pretty good too.
Getting on really well with the slipper launches - just take a look at Natsumi here. Also congratulations to Casablanca - another slipper launch restored by Andrews Boathouses and varnished and sprayed by ES Rowing - which won ‘Best presented boat’ at the Thames Traditional Boat Festival at the weekend.
Really excited to be going to the UK Offshore and Beach Sprints Champs in Saundersfoot this weekend and seeing Kanghua's new range of coastal boats in action. Come and see us on the Kanghua stand if you're going - and let's hope for some sunshine!
Just dropped off a new Kanghua KX quad at Leander and, I have to say, this boat represents a whole new level of excellence from Kanghua. The quality throughout is exceptional and it features a number of innovations adding to both structural integrity and style. Chief among these are the new riggers, manufactured from pre-preg carbon for increased stiffness, and the chequered carbon interior. And after trying the boat, Leander coach Jonny Jackson said it is brilliant - they can't fault it.
And we're expecting more good things from Kanghua soon as they are about to announce a collaboration with an established major boat manufacturer, increasing the number of hull shapes we can offer and bringing another leap forward in boat-building technology. Watch this space...!
Another container-load of Kanghua boats arrived at our workshop yesterday. Mostly customer orders but it did include a couple of new stock boats - an 85/90kg 2x/2- and a 75kg 4x/4- - so give us a shout if you're in the market for one of those.
You might notice also that we have two new members of staff. Welcome to Jack Bailie and Dmytro Mikhai, who is a member of the Ukrainian national team and is currently rowing and training from Leander Club.
Henley Rowing Club wrap up their Kanghua quad after a successful Easter training camp. Looking forward to their first race of the season at Wallingford this weekend - very best of luck from Kanghua!
Two more river cruisers have been into our workshop for a spot of ES TLC. The white boat needed some gel coat repairs, while the red one suffered major damage when a steel canal boat took aim and struck right in the middle of the hull. We relaminated, resprayed and it’s now as good as new.
ES Rowing is running a trailer along the M4/M50 corridors at the end of next week (w/c 28 March) and then on to Ireland. If you have any boats that need repairing - or dropping off/picking up from Ireland - please contact Eric now on 07774 980811.
Good luck to all our Kanghua customers taking part in the Junior Sculling Head this week - and especially the Weybridge J17s who will be competing for the first time in their Kanghua 4x. They had some great results in their Kanghua 2x last year (as J16s), including wins at the Scullery, GB v France, Silver sculls and the Desborough dashes - and also picked up a medal at a very competitive British Championships. They then kicked off this year with a win at Walton Small Boats. Well done guys - and best of luck on your 4x race debut!
Our latest project: Milly Belle came in for gel coat repairs and a polish. Looking good as new!
Really pleased that the new range of Kanghua KCX coastal boats were used at the 2022 GBRT Beach Sprint winter assessment at Caversham Lakes last week. We have a single and a double available for demonstrations so please do contact me if you would like to try one.
ES Rowing will be running a trailer up the north east of England week commencing 21 February. If you have any boats you’d like repaired - or even just a quote - contact us now on 07774 980811 or at [email protected]
Huge congratulations to Hereford Cathedral School who had a really successful season last year in their Kanghua quad. Wins include:
National Schools Regatta: J16 Kingston Cup - J16 4x
British Junior Championships J16 4x
GBvFR Trials J16 4x.
Plus they qualified for the Fawley Challenge Cup as a full J16 crew and were named British Rowing Junior Crew of the Year.
Head of Rowing Ben Wellburn was really pleased with their performance - and their Kanghua quad ('Brilliant boat,' he said, 'Incredibly stable and flow was great.') So much so that they've just had another one delivered. We wish them every success for the coming season. Well done guys!
(And thanks to AllMarkOne for the great pic below.)
We have fitted larger doors to our spray booth so we can now fit in large boats like slipper launches. That means we can get mirror-finish results all year round - just have a look at the latest launch to benefit from an ES Rowing revarnish...
Just been checking over the Kanghua boats that arrived at our workshop yesterday and thought you might like to see the new chequered carbon interior of the Kanghua KX range. The team at ES Rowing Services were really impressed with the quality of the finish on this and all the boats that arrived. And if you look carefully at the serial plate you'll see that this bow-wing quad has come in under FISA minimum weight.
Happy new year to all of ES Rowing’s lovely customers! We hope all your wishes for 2022 will be fulfilled - and if one of those is new trestles, you’re in luck! We have just had a whole load delivered. Don’t delay, though - they sell out fast.
EDIT: Due to the forecast high winds tomorrow, our trip to Wales has been postponed until Tuesday 14 December. We will contact all of our customers who have already made arrangements with us, but please feel free to contact us now if you would like us to pick up - or quote on - a boat for you.
ES Rowing is running a trailer up the M4 to Cardiff and back via Hereford, Monmouth and Worcester on Wednesday 8 December. If you have a boat that needs repairing, book your place now! Just call Eric on 07774 980811 or email us at [email protected]
What do you do when a section of boat is too badly damaged to be repaired? Send it to ES Rowing Services! We can manufacture a mould from an identical boat and then create a whole new section. This 8’s new bow has been fully painted up and is ready to go.
Another container-full of Kanghua boats loaded and ready to leave the Kanghua factory on their way to the UK. Bon voyage!
Congratulations to Nottingham & Union RC, who won WJ15 8x and WJ14 8x in their Kanghua octuples at Star Club Head of the River at the weekend. Great job!
Congratulations to all our customers who took part in the Fours Head at the weekend. There was some great racing and some really great results for Kanghua boats.
Southampton University's women's A 4+ won the Women's Academic 4+ category, while Henley Rowing Club continued an impressive run of results, taking the win in Women's Junior 4x and bagging first and second places in Women's Junior 4+ - an event that saw three Kanghua boats in the top five as Putney High School put in a great performance to finish fifth.
Great racing from everyone who took part. We're looking forward to next season!
We don’t just do boats and slipper launches here at ES Rowing. Our latest job was a 15-year-old horsebox with a severe case of rot. Sides replaced and resprayed, it’s good for the next 15 years!
Just as we waved goodbye to Ina-May, another slipper launch arrived for a refurb. Called Natsumi, it’s currently being prepped for a makeover by our talented crew.
Our latest project, the beautiful Ina-May, leaves her temporary home at ES Rowing after a refurbishment. Last step was a full varnish using a spray varnish system that gives a top-class finish. She looks great but we’re sad to see her go!

Great start to the Head season for Kanghua !Congratulations to all our customers who have taken part in Head races recently.
Henley Rowing Club won 11 events at Reading Small Boats Head in their Kanghua boats, while Hereford Cathedral School continued their impressive run with seven wins at Evesham Junior Head.
We had some great feedback, too, from Gabrielle Moore, whose Durham ARC/Tees RC composite quad won at Tees Long Distance Sculls: 'Loving our smooth-running, comfortable Kanghua quad and the win in it at Tees LDS. Thank you Kanghua - and for the great after-sales service too.'
A huge well done from us to all of you and we look forward to many more successes.
Our latest job - bit bigger than normal! This one’s a cabin cruiser with some damage. One gel-coat repair later, it’s as good as new!
We're all about saving weight when it comes to boat repairs at ES Rowing Services. This Empacher 2x was damaged in a collision and had a hole that went right through the skin. So we relaminated a piece of carbon inner skin, vacuum-formed a new core onto that and then vacuumed on a new carbon outer skin. The middle photo in the bottom row shows the outer skin being vacuumed on. As part of this process, we apply a fabric that absorbs any excess resin. This keeps the weight of your boat down as it means we use no more than the precise amount of resin required for the job. Similarly, instead of just filling the damaged area, we replace the Nomex honeycomb core, keeping your boat as light as possible.
Chilly run out West this morning to pick up damaged boats - one of our regular, free trailer runs to the West of England and Wales!
ES Rowing is on its way North with two trailer runs!
The first will be up the west side of the country as far as Glasgow. A few weeks later we will be coming up the east side as far as Newcastle/Berwick. Contact us now to book your repair boat for collection or just a quote on 07774 980811 or [email protected]
Make sure you know exactly what's being done when you get your boat repaired! When we stripped the old paint (standard practice at ES Rowing) off this Ix for a respray we found THREE layers of old paint that had not been removed (which can be seen in the box - it weighed nearly 5kg where a Ix should carry only about 1.5kg of paint!)
Plus, once the paint was stripped back, we found some old, and serious, damage that had been 'repaired' with car body filler. This boat was close to snapping in half.
So the moral of the story is: have your boat repaired by someone who knows what they're doing!
Swipe to see the repair process!
This is a one year old Empacher VIII that was split open the full length of the boat. This boat was still under FISA minimum weight when finished and was as stiff as a new boat using the FISA twist test.
We often get asked to put a section into a boat, but this time we were asked to take one out. A sectional 4 neatly transformed into a one-piece boat.
Just completed 1990s Janousek Ix that came in for some repairs! We took out the shoulders and the old up-and-over footgear. We then stripped it right back to the hull, repainted it, and fitted a new alloy wing rigger, stretcher and footplate. Good as new! 🥳
New FREE pick-up/drop-off service!
ES Rowing is starting a monthly collection and redelivery service for all rowing clubs along the M4/M50 corridors - and it will be completely free of charge!
If you have any boats you’d like us to collect for repair - or simply to quote on - please contact Eric on 07774 980811 [email protected]
