MATCH REPORT vs Glasshoughton CC :
A nice day to play cricket. On arrival both teams were looking at the wicket and thinking well probably bowl first, a bit of green in it, large cracks here and there, looked like a bowlers dream.
Skipper Rich Blanshard (I’ve remembered this week after a threat from grandma) won the toss and elected to bowl. Sanath and Shanaka opening the bowling. The Glasshoughton openers struggled with the new ball, Sanath bowling a tight line in spells and Shanaka also bowling well, took an early wicket getting Speight out with a slower lofted ball and a misread bowled him out. Next victim was the other opening bat Daikin slashing at one under pressure and Blan-s-h-a-r-d taking another victim keeping him other in the wicket keeping stats. Martin and Lowe in both new batters, Hooton thought things were going well, Martin held around but struggled to score runs, but Lowe didn’t hold back and scored quickly getting his 50 in less than 50 balls, good batting. As he reached those milestone his partner who was on 9 then went for the big one and left his crease and was stumped. Shanaka getting his 3rd wicket. Maskill in and another quick fire 47 partnership before and the introduction of superstar all rounder Amila (Ice Man) getting his first wicket of the game taking Maskill for be on 10. 123-4 things looked good for Glasshoughton, at this point Lee had lost his head as the score was a lot higher than it should have been with some added extras and some sub standard fielding, but star of the day Amila walked back in to the pavilion with 6 wickets as they fell quickly and Milo also taking a wicket. From 123/4 to 165 all out, so a good recovery from the lads but Lee still had the hump, in fairness all the talk and hype about how the wicket looked, it played fairly well.
Hooton opened up with Noble and Danysz (Lee) after putting on a 64 run partnership in midweek, they were trusted to start the run chase.
Things started well, Noble scoring freely and quick while Danysz held his end up and took no risks. Noble again getting towards his 50 played a slower ball early and gave a leading edge getting caught in 46 off 54 balls. In at 3 Pete Atkinson, not long before he was walking across his stumps and being given plumb Lbw for 0. Amila entered, and bludgeoned his way to a quick fire 44 off only 24 balls before getting out to probably the worst ball he will face all season, slow and low!! But the game in the ascendency through his power shots. With the score at 129-3 as Amila left, Hooton have been known to lose quick wickets in the middle order, in came new signing AJ, again with a quick fire 26 off 13 balls hitting the winning runs with a huge 6 as per the Umpires request!! A really assured batting chase with some great power shots and some text book boundaries from Danysz who batted alway through for 37 not out off 67 balls. 16points for the Black Rams will do nicely.
A game played again in very good spirits
On a more serious note and our well wishes to the player who fell ill during the game, who I found out ended up in hospital. From everyone at Hooton Pagnell Cricket Club, a quick recovery and hopefully back playing cricket soon. Glasshoughton CC

Our 2nd player profile is on our very own Amila Amarappulige. Amila originates from Sri Lanka and was known as Ice Man!! Not true but a cool pic though!
He’s been a valued member of the team and is in his 3rd season with us.
Ami is bit of an all rounder scoring 284 runs at 15 and taking 30 wickets at an average of just over 21 last season, so a key player in terms of runs and wickets. A lovely bloke with a beautiful family who have fitted nicely in the club.
Questions.
Where abouts in Sri Lanka are you from? Home town is COLOMBO and moved to KANDY later on.
How long have you been in the UK? Almost 7 years.
How did you end up at Hooton? A friend who use to play for hooton referred me.
Do you have a Nickname? Most of my friends call me "Ami"
Best cricketing moment? Took a diving catch during an inter school cricket match.
Favourite shot to play? Lofted cover drive.
Who’s the funniest in the team? I would say Alwyn and Lee.
Who’s the biggest moaner? Can't think of anyone. 😜

Match Report - we made the short travel to Askern Welfare on a glorious day. back in the team, away on his jollies, Jacko nursing a bad toe in Spain as well as Pete Atkinson, and an injury to .
Lewis Cartwright came in, a loan player in young Freddie and we managed to field an 11.
The result given a lot of experience was missing was still disappointing, but some good individual performances.
We lost the toss and Askern chose to bat, a good decision on a baking day. But the Hooton bowling attack restricted them to 150 All Out in the last over and the pick of the bowlers. Extras being a problem for us for sometime not helping matters.
With some positivity in the changing room with a modest chase, things started slow with quick wickets being lost, but and Fred Baker (on loan) put a spirited fight before losing Warren to a cheap shot that should have landed in Whitely Bridge. In came who batted with aplomb and wet on to score his first 50 on 47 balls to take the game to Askern, but to no avail. No excuses on the day, too many wides, not enough runs from some experienced players brought us 25 runs short with still plenty of overs left in the game. Credit to Askern, some really good open spell bowling edged a close game.
Well done on achieving your batting milestone 👏🏼🏏🏏
