Dorchester Town Ladies FC are delighted to announce that Belle Tapping has made the step up from youth football and joined our Division 2 squad! ⚽️

Belle is a strong and composed central defender who is incredibly difficult to get past. Her strength, determination and defensive ability will make her a great addition to our young squad. 💪

We’re really excited to see Belle continue her development as she makes the transition into ladies’ football.

🏆 MATCH REPORT | GEOFF PIKE WOMEN’S LEAGUE CUP 🏆

⚫️⚪️ DORCHESTER TOWN LADIES DIVISION 2 1–0 BRIDPORT WOMEN ⚪️⚫️

Today we welcomed Division 1 side Bridport Women to the Avenue Stadium in the Geoff Pike Women’s League Cup.

There was a fantastic feeling around the team going into the game, and that positivity showed from the very first whistle.

Over the course of the 90 minutes, it was a really even and competitive contest. Bridport had a goal ruled out for offside during the first half, while our ladies continued to battle for every ball and defend brilliantly.

HT | 0–0

With the afternoon heat making conditions incredibly tough, half-time gave everyone a much-needed chance to catch their breath, get plenty of fluids on board and keep the positivity flowing.

The second half continued in much the same way, with both defensive units performing extremely well and chances at a premium.

Then came the breakthrough! 🙌

A brilliant flowing move from Dorchester opened up the Bridport defence, with Daisy Sangiovanni finishing to score what proved to be the winning goal! ⚽️🖤🤍

At the other end, Ada Hooper and the defence remained strong to secure a thoroughly deserved clean sheet.

Unfortunately, Louise Claxton had to leave the field following a knee injury. Everyone at Dorchester Town Ladies FC sends Louise our very best wishes and hopes to see her back with the team when she’s ready. 🖤🤍

Bournemouth Poppies 6–1 Dorchester Town Ladies

Dorchester faced a tough afternoon away to Bournemouth Poppies, with the home side making a strong start.

The warning signs came after just three minutes when the ball was flashed dangerously across the Dorchester box, but the Magpies survived. Three minutes later, sustained pressure from Bournemouth paid off as they opened the scoring to make it 1–0.

Dorchester responded immediately. On seven minutes, Lucy Polley launched a good counter-attack, putting Lucy Purbrick through down the left, but her shot-cross went just over.

Bournemouth doubled their advantage on 14 minutes after a loose ball inside the Dorchester box was eventually finished from close range.

The Magpies continued to create opportunities. On 22 minutes, a great ball released Sadie West, who beat the offside trap but sent her effort narrowly wide. Four minutes later, excellent pressing from Sadie forced the Bournemouth defence into a mistake. She rounded the goalkeeper but was pushed too wide to find the finish.

Dorchester had another opportunity from a 25-yard free kick on 27 minutes, but the effort struck the wall.

Kate was called into action on 36 minutes, getting down well as Bournemouth fired across the six-yard box. Two minutes later, Dorchester went close again when Purbrick delivered a fantastic cross, but Sadie couldn’t convert from close range.

Just before half-time, Dorchester failed to clear their lines and Bournemouth took advantage to make it 3–0 at the break.

The home side extended their lead on 60 minutes before a superb strike from around 25 yards made it 5–0 two minutes later. Bournemouth added a sixth on 70 minutes.

But Dorchester kept going and were rewarded on 75 minutes. Sadie hooked the ball back towards the far post, where Zara headed home from around seven yards to get the Magpies on the scoresheet.

A difficult afternoon for the Division 1 squad, but despite the scoreline Dorchester created opportunities and continued battling until the end.
