The match report from yesterday was a bit of fun with the help of ChatGPT.

What we failed to add was that our opponents were top notch in all they did. The initial welcome, the conduct of the girls and a very friendly touchline.

🦁 Sheffield FC Conquer the Plains! 🦁

Edenthorpe Girls 1–3 Sheffield FC U14s Girls

Well… where do we start with this one? 😂

The girls came away with a well-deserved 3–1 victory, but this wasn’t just a football match — it was apparently an audition for I’m a Celebrity: Sheffield FC Edition!

The pitch could best be described as the plains of Africa. 🦁🌾 We were half expecting David Attenborough to pop up behind the dugout and start narrating!

But despite the conditions, the girls came out on top.

The opening 10 minutes saw Sheffield FC firmly in control, creating chances and putting Edenthorpe under pressure. The only thing stopping us from taking an early lead was some excellent goalkeeping.

The Edenthorpe keeper was absolutely outstanding and, without doubt, their Girl of the Game. Save after save kept them in it.

We did get a bit of a scare when Edenthorpe missed a golden opportunity with an open goal, but thankfully the football gods were smiling on us!

Then, on 20 minutes, a rare moment of poor defending allowed Edenthorpe to take a 1–0 lead — completely against the flow of the game.

But what do we know about these girls? They don’t stay down for long!

Just a minute later, Betsy reacted quickest after a goalmouth scramble and fired home to bring us level.

Half-time: 1–1

The second half was more of the same — Sheffield FC pushing, creating and looking for the breakthrough.

And eventually it came.

Summer’s hard work, determination and persistence finally paid off as she turned brilliantly on the ball and found the finish to put us 2–1 ahead.

Then came Jade, who clearly hadn’t received the memo that the ball was supposed to be considered lost! 😂

Showing a brilliant never-say-die attitude, she kept battling for the loose ball and eventually managed to get a toe on it, prodding it home to make it 3–1.

There were still plenty of chances to add to the score, but once again the Edenthorpe keeper stood tall and produced save after save.

In truth, 3–1 probably doesn’t tell the full story of our dominance, but we’ll happily take the three points!

The girls showed great character after going behind, adapted to a challenging pitch and kept playing their football right to the final whistle.

A big well done to Emilia and Jersey, who were our Sheffield FC Girls of the Game. Both put in fantastic performances and thoroughly deserved the recognition. 👏

A great result, a great response after going behind — and thankfully no safari equipment required for the journey home! 😂

New kits and new sponsors for the ladies at Sheffield FC

Game day 1 following the title winning season last time out. A lunchtime kickoff but that didn’t stop the girls starting the game perfectly with our first shot on goal after 1 minute giving us the lead, Jade with her first of the season.

The girls didn’t let up and kept pushing forward, great link up play with Immy, Emilia and Jersey seeing more chances created. The pressure led to a chance to double the lead which Jade took for her second of the game.

The girls were now in total control of the game, wave after wave of attacks kept coming, the passing and movement at time was excellent to watch. The home side started to come in to the game for the last 10 mins of the half and were rewarded with a goal of their own.

HT 1-2

The second half was a little more of an even affair. Wednesday tried to play more direct and caused us a few problems but a couple of excellent saves from Chloe kept us in the lead. After making a few changes the girls took control again, pressing higher up the pitch and passing the ball well again.

We took a firmer control of the game when a ball broke to Lottie outside the area and she hit it well to make it 3-1. Less than a minute later a smart turn and strike from Immy went over the keeper to make it 4-1.

That’s how the game finished and a win to mark our return to Division 2.

First game of the season, let’s go!

Not long now until the new season kicks off. A new challenge for the girls after a successful promotion season last time out.

Just 8 girls still with the team from the last time we graced Div 2 so a new challenge for most.
