Morton Thistle 2013

Our 5th and final game in the CLYFA challenge cup today, a battle between 2nd and 3rd in the table with it all to play for to secure a spot in the semi final.

We welcomed our friends Coatbridge to Wallace Hall for an 11:30 kick off, their second trip to Thornhill having travelled to our first Michael Bennett memorial festival in August.

The first half was scrappy, both teams creating chances with end to end play and some fantastic stops from the keepers.

Morton opened the scoring and went into half time with the advantage.

Second half Morton were keen to extend their lead. Rocco was brought down outside the box, 1 on 1 with their defender which was judged to be a last man tackle and Coatbridge were reduced to 10 men. This was the turning point in the game and Morton went on to be comfortable winners.

Well done lads, 3 wins, a defeat and a draw - semi final here we come!

All the best to Coatbridge for the rest of the season. See you again in a fortnight.

Another early start for the team this morning, we kicked off at 10am against Airdrie. Away game but home strips due to a colour clash.

A few changes of positions and formation due to missing 2 of our usual strikers.

Great teamwork, talking, pressing and so many chances.

Good to get Conlan a few minutes at the end as he returns from injury, well done to Gibby again taking up position in nets.

Very proud of the whole team's performance and brilliant also to keep a clean sheet. Well done boys.

This morning we travelled to Hamilton to face BSA in the CLYFA challenge cup.

Usual start to the game, we lost an early goal. The first half was really competitive, both teams going for it but some great defending meant no more goals until just before half time when we managed to even things up. A last man tackle from the goalie taking Henry to the ground, some how he managed to recover and slotted the ball in from a tight angle, no further action for their keeper....

Second half we had a few good chances, we managed to take the lead and were pressing hard, Jude was taken down on the edge of the box and we were awarded a penalty. Despite a strong strike the goalie pulled off a great save. Unfortunately this gave BSA a lift and they were relentless in the final part, equalising and going on to get the win.

A strong performance from the boys and a great game.

We are still without a goalie and no Gibby this weekend so huge thanks to trialist Matthew for helping out, it's been a while since he pulled on the gloves but it was like he'd never been away, cheers Wull!

This was a brilliant day last year, all to raise funds for improved facilities for the local area!

With under a month to go until our annual Ayr Gold Cup fundraising event, preparations are ramping up. We still have tables and individual tickets available, please get in touch for more info. It was a brilliant day last year! 🐎🏆

Tonight we hosted Terregles in our second game of the CLYFA challenge cup on one of the wettest nights of the year. 🌧️

Challenging for both teams as we were soaked to the skin during the warm up and the pitch became heavy and sodden.

The first half Terregles were certainly more up for it, we went into the break trailing.

Second half was more positive, we managed to even things up and created a few good chances but the second goal just never came, after full time it was penalties.

Huge well done to every one who stepped up and to Gibby for doing in his best in nets, his usual position not being keeper.

Terregles took the victory on pens. Best of luck for the rest of the season.

After 2 games to have 4 points is amazing, heads up boys and onto our next game, on Saturday we head to Blantyre.

Good luck to all the boys back to school tomorrow, especially our two young ones; Cole and Arron starting Wallace Hall.

Today the 2013 team kicked off their 2026/27 season. First fixture away to Cranhill, new opponents, new venue and new league. It was an early start to get to Glasgow for a 9:30 kick off.

With some boys still on holiday and goalie Conlan out injured, huge thanks to Gibby for swapping his number 3 top for number 12 and standing between the sticks today and trialist Elliot for helping out too.

Couldn't really have asked for a better start to the season, a well contested game but the boys showed great character and determination coming from behind twice. Great talking and leadership resulting in some brilliant goals.

Thanks also go to Liane and Suz today standing in as officials with Eddie when we were short on coaches as well as our brilliant travelling support.

A well deserved win and a new Maccy Ds for after. 🍔

We've had the best day at our first competitive home festival, welcoming some old friends as well as new teams but with every game we were treated to some fantastic football played with support of each other and respect, promoting development football. Thanks to all the teams who travelled to compete.

Big congratulation to our Cup winners, Clyde Apollo and Trophy winners, TASS. 🏆

Shout out to Henry who unfortunately couldn't make it today due to illness, get well soon! Also GK Conlan sustained an injury just minutes into our first fixture, well done to Euan for coming straight on as a sub to position he's never played before and Gibby for standing in nets for the rest of our games. 🥅 🧤

Thank you to everyone who put so much work in to make today the success it was. Antony and Liane were snapping away all day so look out for photos in the next few days. 📸

As always, we are so proud of the whole team. A bittersweet day as Michael was always at the forefront of our minds, he would have loved it. 💔😢
