The blurry photo says it all.
6 years ago today since I completed my bike trip round the 100 micropubs of Britain at the Penny Farthing in Crayford. A lot more micropubs nowadays; that would be a very long journey!

I have happy memories of crossing the Bristol Channel on PS Waverley in 2015 (and saving myself about 300 miles of cycling!). Since then I have always hoped to take a trip on her again.
It would be very sad to see this unique ship go. Please donate if you can.

Three reasons why my Micropub Bike Ride is still delivering the goods for Alzheimers Society:
1. My fundraising page got a donation last week from a micropub that had just emptied the charity box I left them 18 months ago!
2. When I eventually get paid for my photo and written contributions to the Micropub Guide, that money will all go to Alzheimers Society
3. At last I'm opening my own micropub (watch this space). And guess whose charity box will be on the bar.

To my dear faithful Dawes, wherever you are (I never did give you a name, despite owning you for more than 20 years).
You were certainly the best £300 I have ever spent, taking me on so many journeys and adventures, enabling me to meet so many new friends as well as clocking up oh-so-many miles on more mundane tasks like shopping, pub runs and commuting.
Even when I eventually got myself a younger, slimmer and faster model, you were still my companion of choice for my touring trips where your carrying capacity and go-anywhere attitude could be relied on. So it was only natural that you became the 2 wheeled half of the duo that was Richard's Micropub Bike Ride.
I hope that your new "owner" (the "Caucasian male" that snatched you from outside a takeaway on Caledonian Road at 18.05 yesterday evening) looks after you well, although I suspect he will either put you on Gumtree for a few quid or throw you in the canal.
So sorry to lose you; I felt we both had a few more adventures ahead of us.

OK, my last post (honest!). I'm in Box Social, a small railway arch that was the Split Chimp's original home. It calls itself a "barcuterie" and I immediately thought WTF?! But it's allright really. A taproom for a local microbrewery, serving their own cask and keg plus guest beers in a micropub-esque environment. Just turn that music down a bit and it'll be OK.
Now, before I get the train home, I'm off for a quick one at the Crown Posada, one of my top pubs of ALL time!
The last 2 days has reminded me how much I love this part of the world!

Don't get me wrong, I like this place. But isn't it a bit too big and rather too slick to be called a micropub?

OK, so it was a pint of IPA then a pint of stout. Does that count as a cocktail? Love this place.

Looks like this could be a cracking little basement micropub, but not quite open for business yet :-(

Getting around! Whitley Bay now. No bike no problem. Good to meet you, Tony.

Great to catch up with Gemma & David again

Back in 2015 when I visited The Curfew in Berwick as part of my Micropub bike ride. I also met Simon & Debbie Rutherford who were planning their own micropub, Rutherford's, over the border in Kelso. I told them I would visit when they were up and running. So here I am! I just hadn't realised it would take me nearly 2 years to get round to it!
