For anyone new to my coaching page, a bit about me coach Rachel!

I’m 44 years old and have completed 56 races at marathon distance or longer over the past almost 15 years. This is across a range of distances, terrain and race formats. My first road marathon was in Oct 2011 and my first trail ultra in July 2013.

I have completed 16 officially measured road marathons spanning a 13.5 year window with a time range of 3:17-3:49 so pretty consistent given not all were target A races. My road marathon PB is 3:17 from the pre super shoes era as are all my road PB’s 😆

The longest race I have completed is 108 miles and I have been at/over the 100 miles distance 6 times.
I have completed road ultras (Two Oceans and Comrades 🇿🇦 twice) As well as a track 24 hour race and a backyard ultra where I was placed second female and last female standing respectively.

I like to class myself as a “jack of all trades, master of *some!” I could have maybe performed better in certain race disciplines if I had chosen to fully commit and concentrate on one and pursue that, but that has never been my style! I like to do the events I enjoy and be excited and driven for certain race formats as that’s how I believe I get the best out of myself and have been able to perform consistently across this 15 year period.

I’m very process driven in my approach to training and racing and that has also served me well and helped me achieve some fantastic results when I have gone into ultras recovering from an injury/undertrained. I do believe it’s the whole package and not just training completed that leads to successful ultra race results!

Though I am in perimenopause now which has its own challenges to navigate regarding performance; as an endurance athlete I have never lost a menstrual cycle or had a stress fracture so I feel I have managed recovery ❤️‍🩹 well across the years and got the balance right!

Liz Yelling my coach/mentor for 11 years massively helped shape the athlete/coach that I am today!

Lakeland 100 ⛰️ race weekend round up for Rachel Langrish Coaching 🏃‍♀️

Thomas Sahebjam achieved a second Lakeland 100 finish from 2 Lakeland 100 starts; a result he should be massively proud of. Following a top 50 finish at The Lap in May, Tom has struggled with shin splints over the 6 weeks leading into L100. A combination of physio, rehab and cross training got him the all clear to start the race. Fortunately his shin didn’t bother him at all during the race but a rolled ankle before 30 miles meant it was going to be a long battle where his mental strength would be tested to the max to achieve that medal. Despite being over 5 hours slower than last year, Tom persevered to the finish in 37 hours 53 mins and learned a lot about himself, what he can endure when a race is not going his way!

Lisa Jane it was a triumph for Lisa to get to the start line of this iconic race! She has struggled with a knee injury since September last year so we needed to be mindful of that within her training build. Cycling was used to supplement her running/hiking to lessen the training load whilst she worked on her knee rehabilitation. She has done so well managing to complete her training along side working a full time job and her own side business. She has learned a lot about herself throughout this training process, how much she can achieve and what accountability looks like.
Unfortunately due to severe blisters she was medically retired from the race at Blencathra CP at 42 miles.
I know she will be back in the coming years to get even and get that Lakeland 100 medal 🥇

Coach Rachel Rachel Langrish completed her 2nd L100 race, 6th 100 miler & 56th race at marathon distance and above. Even though the race was still full of quite a few issues to overcome, Rachel managed to improve on her 2023 finish time by 2 hours 19 minutes; mainly due to her feet not being as problematic as last time. Finishing in 32 hours 13 mins earned a top 11% female, top 9% age group and top 19% overall.

If you are looking for help, guidance and/or accountability for an upcoming race or training goal then please get in touch. I work with all abilities!

We asked UESCA-certified coaches this question:

What's one thing you've learned from coaching that a textbook never would have taught you?

Here's what Coach Rachel Langrish shared:

"Being able to listen, pay attention to detail, and ask relevant questions to your athlete; then adapt a training plan based on that is invaluable."

Massive congratulations to .music who completed The Lap 47 mile ultramarathon with 8800ft in the Lake District at the weekend 👏

Tom finished of Windermere in a very impressive time of 9 hours 33 minutes, smashing his sub 10 hour goal & earning him a top 50 finish (46th place overall - 38th male) from over 1200 runners.

Tom has been a pleasure to coach over the past 3 months and is starting to see the benefit of more structured training. I’m looking forward to see what he does next at Lakeland 100 ⛰️ at the end of July!

Coaching clients Tom and Lisa enjoying themselves Sunderland Strollers Running Club Pier to Pier circa coastal race today!

Not all official races need to be done as an A goal at race effort. Sometimes they are just part of a bigger plan 🎯

Focus on the process not the outcome!

DM for any coaching enquiries if you need help/structure/accountability building towards your goals.

3 years since I completed the South West Traverse 45 miler by

I sprained my ankle badly 11 weeks before the race, didn’t run for 7 weeks & my longest run was 6 miles in those last 4 weeks. I did do some walking & hiking when I couldn’t run to get some time on feet.

I placed 7th female.

Ultra Running is about more than training done, yes it helps and is important to be consistent within your training and adapt where necessary but make sure you work on all parts of the puzzle. Mental training, nutrition, kit, logistics, race ex*****on are all equally as important and will help you get to the finish line.

If you need guidance towards working towards your next race/goal then DM for more information.
