**Match Report**
Rothwell Swans - 2
Tingley Stripes - 5
The second league game of the season gave us our second away game of the season. This time to play Rothwell Swans.
No, Dara, in the goals today as she was not feeling good. But a massive shout out to both Niamh and Lyla for carrying out the goalkeeping duties in their respective halves.
The first half was good dominant play by the Stripes. Not immediately, it came gradually, but it was strong across the field. Good tackles, good movement, good passing, good support. On a number of occasions, Liv got free to get shots away and was thwarted by the oppositions goalkeeper. That was until Liv got clear again and smashed the ball into the corner of the net. It wasn't long until the 2nd came with Liv shooting from the edge of the box, letting a powerful dipping shot go, beating the keeper who had no chance.
Any balls coming through were either cleared by the astute defence or were gathered up quickly by Niamh.
The third goal of the half came from another powerful attack that saw Liv get a shot away but was blocked. The ball fell to Penelope, who smashed the ball into the back of the net.
O-3 at half time.
The second half saw the opposition come out fighting. They seemed a different team to the first half. Really putting on the pressure. This pressure gave them a goal back 1-3.
Another Garforth attack saw the ball cleared by our defence straight to Liv, still in her own half down the right wing. Liv runs with the ball, taking it past all comers, still on the right with players getting back, takes it past the goalkeeper with brilliant footwork, and puts the ball into the empty net. A brilliant individual goal. 1-4.
A fith goal was added by some great team pressure and passing.. Tani passes to Niamh, who passes to Laila, awho then passes to Liv, Liv shoots, and scores. A wonderful team goal. Everything we have working on in training
The Tingley defence became a little sleepy later in the game, not getting to the ball first and not clearing effectively. Lyla made some fantastic saves and parries to thwart the opposition. After multiple corners, the opposition scored their second with an unstoppable finish by their striker.

A good game of football that the Stripes controlled for most parts. We are seeing solid passing and movement, players looking for each other, and better communication. We are strong in all areas of the field, and we need to have that confidence as individuals and as a team to make that count. Well done, girls! An excellent game of football and a brilliant result.
Next training sessions, we need to work on getting to the ball first and further developing passing and communication.
