Seems my performance in the CrossFit Open peaked in 2019/2020 so that will officially be my “glory years” forever and I shan’t speak of anything since. (jk, it’s okay, Grandma’s pushing on now and CrossFit is hard)
But guess what? When I joined in 2013, I could not even do a push up, I had never touched a barbell in my life and I watched people climbing a rope like “r u mad?”
I also didn’t have lots of the amazing people in my life that I do now (my almost husband included ) and nor did I ever consider coaching myself - and that is all owed to this place and this sport.
So basically, the unfounded wisdom I’m trying to impart is that the Open scores, stats and leaderboards are so great to have, but really, it is about sooo much more than the physical achievements (maybe cheesy but tell me it’s not true) ✌🏼

Be Strong Group Sessions are back 🤩
These sessions are aimed at anyone new to strength training - we will practice fundamental movements (such as deadlift, squat & press) and build confidence and strength using dumbbells, kettlebells, bands and our own body weight.
My aim is to introduce more women to weight training (and experience all it’s benefits) in a fun and supportive environment!
Sessions will now be based out of a new private studio at CrossFit Southampton - click the link below to sign up, starting next Monday at 6:15pm ☺️

What a weekend 🤩 Absolute DREAM TEAM!
I know that and have been working really hard behind the scenes the last few weeks to make sure this weekend would be a memorable one and it certainly paid off!
Everyone who gave their time this weekend worked so hard to ensure everything ran as planned and the atmosphere was amazing. The community at this gym is second to none.
Also good luck prizing that mic from my cold dead hands after this weekend, because I bloody loved it 🎤
Roll on April for the next one… 🤩

September is here and I’m ready to start another month of my new beginners strength classes ☺️
I really want to reach anyone who wants to try resistance training, or anyone who’s not sure where or how to start, to show that the benefits are not, and should not, be limited to those in the scary corner of the weights room! These classes are in a small private studio, open to all abilities.

Back on Monday! 😀

I have wanted to start a class like this for a while and I’m really pleased to say we’re now ready to go!
In a private studio with a small group, we will aim to build strength and technique, using weights and our own body weight. These sessions will be perfect for those who may have little or no experience in resistance training, or simply those who want to move more in a fun, supportive environment!
Resistance training can strengthen your entire body (muscles, joints, posture, balance) and I’d love to encourage as many women as possible give it a try and experience the benefits.
I would love to see you there! Spaces are limited, so book yours via the link ☺️

It doesn’t have to be a barbell 😉
Free weights, like kettlebells and dumbbells, are so versatile and great for strength training. They give the opportunity to work on uni-lateral movements and potentially address any strength imbalances (ever felt like one leg or arm feels stronger than the other?)
Free weights are also great for stability exercises, for example an overhead press with dumbbells can feel much more difficult than with a barbell as the weight isn’t ‘fixed’ to a bar, so you will work harder to control and stabilise the load overhead.
If you want to give weight training a go, get in touch 📩😊

This morning was definitely more dancing than training 😍
Training, exercise, fitness, weightlifting, CrossFit… it is, can and should be for everyone. Proud to be part of a community that I hope makes everyone and anyone feel that they are welcome 🙏🏼

Practise the basics. Sounds simple but can easily be over looked in favour of progressing on to more ‘fun’ or ‘exciting’ movements.
If you want to reach your full potential in weightlifting, then ideally the key positions need to be as sound and solid as possible. For example, if your position in an air squat is poor, this will likely break down even more when you practise the same movement under load (for example, receiving the bar in a squat clean or overhead in a sn**ch).
To ensure you’re moving as efficiently and effectively as possible in your lifting, work on perfecting the simple movements again and again without load (or with a light load). Build and maintain a solid foundation.
It may not be the ‘sexy’ stuff, but it can make all the difference! Get in touch if you want to work together 💪🏼

How often should you train?
Well, this depends... What are your goals? How long have you been training? How much time do you have? What do you enjoy? What else are you doing?
There are so many things to consider! Which means there’s no easy answer, as this will be personal and specific to each person.
If you’re just starting out and don’t have much training experience, then firstly get some guidance from a coach and focus on what you enjoy doing. Build up slowly, increasing the duration, frequency or intensity of sessions when you feel ready and set small, achievable goals along the way. In my experience, there’s nothing to be gained by jumping in and going from zero to one hundred - this rarely breeds longevity in training.
Of course there will be people you see training 5 or 6 times a week, with longer or higher intensity sessions, but typically they will have built up this volume and intensity over an extended period of time (ie. years). This is certainly not the starting point for the majority of people (it definitely wasn’t for me!).
The best place to start is just to start! Build up slowly and steadily. Set some goals, however big or small, and take little steps towards them in your training over time.

Remember those post-workout hugs and high-fives? Looks like they’re not too far away now 🤩
Sharing that feeling of elation/relief with someone after getting through a workout, and that sense of being ‘in it together’ is why I love training with others.
Not only that, but on the days when you’re not feeling motivated or focused, just knowing that someone will be there alongside you, or is there waiting for you, can be the push you need to get going.
Drop me a message to book in a personal session for you and a friend or two to share the fun and fitness 👯♀️📩

Competitions, and when I could kind-of sort-of do a two step shuffle handstand walk
11/05/2021
Follow these simple steps:
Step 1: Get your first pull up
Step 2: Tell everyone you know and post on social media
Step 2 is pretty easy, step 1 is (annoyingly) more difficult.
I know for a lot of people, getting a pull up can feel like an impossible feat. Especially for women, as (if you are anything like me) we like to tell ourselves we can’t, or won’t be able to do something before even trying - but trust me, you can get there! It just takes some focus and perseverance.
Firstly, the focus for building strength in the pull up should be on the back, and specifically, the Lats (not the arms as some people assume! Big biceps don’t = pull ups). Working on building strength in your lats with exercises like barbell or dumbbell rows, and lat pull downs are extremely beneficial for pull ups.
Secondly, scale the pull up movement back enough so you can practice a higher volume of repetitions in the same (or similar) position. There’s a lot of different options here, such as using a resistance band, or using a lower bar or rings (to allow your feet to stay on the ground).
Another great progression option is to practice slow and controlled negative pull ups (with a resistance band if needed). These are so effective to build pull up strength, they are worth the pure misery (Sorry there’s no denying that 😐)
📩 Get in touch if you want to work on these things together! We can tell all your friends once you’ve smashed it🔥

This is awesome to see - especially as it’s specifically outlines ‘strengthening activity’ as well as ‘cardiovascular activity’.
Developing and maintaining strength is so important and so beneficial... you don’t have to use a barbell to get stronger, but it’s probably the most fun 🤓
Today we've launched a new edition of Health Matters focusing on the importance of physical activity for your health. 🏃🚶♀️🏊♀️
