It was a busy Sunday for our U11 teams in County Cup action this weekend. In Carlisle, the Boys beat South of Scotland 6-0 to post a final finish of 5th place. [see reel in Stories for their match point win in the doubles]

Meanwhile at Craiglockhart, the girls lost 5โ€“1 against West of Scotland and were narrowly beaten by North of Scotland in a shootout, but they still finished 2nd overall.

Well done everyone - and captains Michael and Julia - for their great efforts over the weekend.

Did you know...Tennis started life in 12th century France where it was originally played by monks as a form of entertainment during ceremonial occasions.

Players would use the palm of their hands to hit a ball back and forth over the net in a game called 'jeu de paume' meaning 'game of the palm'. In time, a black leather glove was used and in the 16th century a handle was added to the glove which formed the first racquet.

Weโ€™re well into the VMH SOLICITORS of Scotland Tennis Leagues season now, with just four rounds remaining.

In the womenโ€™s competition Braid Lawn Tennis Club, who lead Division 1 with six wins from six, are away to Dunfermline Tennis Club (pictured) next week. Meanwhile at the top of Division 2, Mortonhall Tennis Club sit just one point above David Lloyd Edinburgh Newhaven Harbour - the latter club can be seen from the upper floor of the impressive five-bedroom period property in nearby Park Road, new to VMH listings, https://www.vmh.co.uk/properties-for-sale/property-details/?prop=286230 which also has spectacular views across Newhaven Harbour. Next week sees a meeting of the David Lloyds as Newhaven take on David Lloyd Edinburgh Corstophine.

Tennis Club 2 are the only club in Div 5A to have kept their 100% win record, and top the table with 12 points, having just edged Tennis Club 3 in the most recent matches. Round 7 see them take on Berwick Tennis Club 3 at home.

In the Menโ€™s leagues, Serfs Tennis Club maintain their 100% unbeaten record in Division 1 - whilst still not dropping a set - most recently winning against Park LTC. Their next fixture is against Lawn Tennis Club.

Elsewhere Lawn Tennis, Squash & Sports Club are two points clear of Tennis Club at the top of Division 4B - the latter club is a ten-minute walk from the two-bedroom flat at Roseburn Maltings https://www.vmh.co.uk/properties-for-sale/property-details/?prop=287207 which VMH currently have for sale. The two clubs meet in the penultimate round of the leagues in two weekโ€™s time.

Thanks to the support of VMH Solicitors through their generous sponsorship of our East of Scotland Tennis Leagues, over 3400 players in the region can continue to compete on the courts each week. We are massively appreciative of VMH Solicitors' commitment which actively encourages adults and juniors to take up, participate in and enjoy tennis.
