✨ This week’s Friday Focus is on Pull The Sword!✨
A side facing upper body exercise, drawing the arm from the hip up in a diagonal line to straighten the arm out away from the body - like you’re drawing a sword out of its holder!
This exercise challenges the stability and control around the shoulder, as well strengthening through external rotation, whilst requiring core strength to keep hips and shoulders square throughout the movement.
The exercise can be performed in a number of positions, depending on comfort; kneeling on the carriage, sitting cross legged or even seated on the box on the carriage.
Some important points to remember with your Pull The Sword:
🔘 Lead with the elbow and keep elbow high throughout movement - avoid dropping the elbow and leading with the wrist
🔘 Keep shoulders and hips square - avoid twisting through the body when pressing the arm away
🔘 Keep shoulders down away from ears - squeeze shoulder blades back and down so shoulders don’t creep up
🔘 Keep wrist strong and straight when pressing arm away - avoid wrist bending as you press away
🔘 If adding the raised kneel, keep movement slow and controlled, squeezing glutes as you lift up
🔘 If adding the rotation, keep arm straight and strong, and keep it in line with your body so you twist through your torso rather than leading with just the arm
To progress the exercise, add either a raised kneel, a rotation, or why not combine both to really test your control and strength!
Try these out in one of our classes next week! Have you booked yours yet?
