Etwall Vets 2-2 Kirk Hallam Vets

Goals: Arron, Watto

A game to look back on and think, how did we only score 2?

Hatfuls of missed chances.

They weren’t a great side, but they sensed the frustration amongst ourselves and rose their game significantly as the match went on. One of those where they just wanted it more than us and came away with a well deserved point.

We started really well, playing some nice football but couldn’t finish. Obviously they scored with their one and only shot of the half to put them 1-0 up.

We pushed and pushed, and after some great work from Danny and Barnes on a corner, Arron turned home from close range. 1-1 at half time.

More chances came and went in the second half, however, after knocking on the door for ages, Watto finally slotted home to become top goalscorer. 2-1.

Their equaliser came as their striker looped a header towards goal, Butty decided that winning wasn’t an option today and threw the ball into his own net. 2-2.

We created a couple more opportunities, Pat hitting the bar the closest, but it wasn’t to be.

I blame the dwarves for putting a curse on us somehow.

Etwall Vets 4-1 Old Bemrosians

Goals: Watto x 2, Gibbo, OG

It’s good to be back! A comfortable win for the mighty vets, but we made hard work of it!

A really rusty start, Gibbo missed a 1 on 1 before Watto missed a header from 3 yards, and it just wasn’t clicking for us.

We eventually took the lead before the break, Watto scuffing a deflected shot into the corner. Sean felt he should have passed though. Half time, 1-0.

Some strong words at half time, we looked much better in the 2nd half and deservedly got the second goal. Great work from Livo, squaring it for Watto to grab his second from a delightful set piece. 2-0.

We were so confident that Livo decided to experiment with the team, putting Gibbo in centre mid, replacing the superb Kirky. This didn’t go to plan, and Old Bemrosians pulled one back. 2-1.

Skipper Barnes put his foot down, and the experiment was over.

Bills whipped in another inviting corner, and their centre half smashed it into his own net. 3-1.

Sean was then taken out to win a penalty. He hit it well, probably too well, and if it wasn’t for the crossbar, it would have probably ended up in Hilton. ❌

“Old B” were looking ragged now though, and a delightful through ball from Sean found Gibbo who rounded the keeper and slotted home. 4-1.

Our Scottish contingent combined late on too, as Sean wiped out Ross! 💥

We could have grabbed a few more, but it wasn’t to be, and that’s how it finished.

Etwall Vets 2-2 Stretton Vets

Goals: Arron, Watto

MOTM: Dale

Back in action at Etwall Leisure Centre on Sunday as the carpet at Sandypits was underwater.

Tough, physical game that was fairly even throughout. 1-0 down until a Diag from Barnesy that Armishaw could only dream of hitting released Dale and Watto bullied the keeper for Arron to slot home his first goal for the club. 1-1.
Their keeper, clearly rattled by Watto’s presence, then let a back pass roll underneath him to leave The Wardrobe clean through with a nice tap in to send Etwall 2-1 up at half time.

Second half was a battle, Stretton like it rough and challenges went flying in on Dale, Gibbo and Butty, yet only a yellow card was given to Billsy for delaying a restart. We never really got going though and with 2 minutes left, Stretton got their equaliser.

We definitely owe them at their place

Grantham 2-1 Etwall

Defeat on the road in the Veterans FA Cup today vs Grantham Veterans.
An unfortunate 2–1 loss, with plenty of stiff legs after the long drive into the middle of nowhere.

Gaffer LIVINGSTONE grabbed our only goal after bringing himself off the bench to try and save the game. AVO hit the deck a couple of times, BLEAKS did his knee, and BUTTY… well, he literally shat himself.

Top marks for the post-match sausages and chips though! 👍⚽️
