🏏 End of Season Debrief – Ferrybridge Cricket Club

As another season comes to a close, it’s time to look back on what has been a challenging but hugely positive year for Ferrybridge Cricket Club.

The season threw plenty at us, with some big players leaving the club, but the response from everyone involved was fantastic. We pulled together, strengthened as a squad and improved significantly throughout the season. There is plenty to be proud of and, more importantly, plenty to be excited about for the future. πŸ’™

πŸ₯‡ First Team – 5th Place | 175 Points

The First Team finished 5th with 175 points, putting together a strong campaign despite the challenges faced throughout the season.

🏏 Second Team – 6th Place

The Seconds finished 6th, but the league position doesn’t tell the full story.

The biggest positive was the number of younger players coming through and showing real promise. They were given opportunities, gained valuable experience and showed plenty of signs that the future of the club is in good hands.

Ferrybridge vs Bullcroft 🏏

Stepping in as captain Blanchard took a very different-looking Ferrybridge first team to Bullcroft, with several players stepping up to help fill the squad.

Opening the bowling were Mohit Paul and youngster Oscar Ball, who earned his call-up after impressing in training. Mo struck twice early, removing M. Geary for 2, edging the ball onto his own stumps, before removing Bullcroft captain D. Birkett for a duck, caught by David Shaw at midwicket.

Oscar then claimed his first first-team wicket, removing M. Williamson for a duck after an excellent spell of tight bowling.

Mo finished with 5 overs, 9 runs and 2 wickets, making way for David Shaw, who immediately produced a maiden. Oscar completed his five overs for just 6 runs and 1 wicket.

David then ripped through the Bullcroft middle order, removing J. Dixon and F. Allen in the same over and coming agonisingly close to a hat-trick, only for a difficult chance to go down.

Kieron Blanchard brought Joseph Patrickson into the attack and Joe made an instant impact, taking two wickets in his first over, both backed up by excellent catches from Oscar. One was an outstanding full-stretch diving catch that wouldn’t have looked out of place on the big screen! πŸŽ₯

David continued his destruction, removing D. Lovett for 5, before wrapping up the innings with the final two wickets. Oscar completed his third catch of the innings as Bullcroft were bowled out for just 62.

⭐ David Shaw: 7.5 overs, 5 maidens, 11 runs, 5 wickets
⭐ Joseph Patrickson: 3 overs, 2 maidens, 8 runs, 2 wickets
⭐ Mohit Paul: 5 overs, 9 runs, 2 wickets
⭐ Oscar Ball: 5 overs, 6 runs, 1 wicket

A brilliant bowling and fielding display left Ferrybridge needing just 63 to win.

Ferrybridge’s reply

Kieron Blanchard and Rich Lumb opened with what can only be described as a very Test-match approach! Unfortunately, Blanchard was bowled in the 4th over, bringing Mohit Paul to the crease.

Mo clearly got the memo, joining Rich in nudging, prodding and occasionally hurdling his way to the odd one and two. The pair patiently rebuilt the innings before Mo was bowled by the new bowler’s very first delivery, finishing on a valuable 16.

Aaron Snowdon joined Rich and immediately looked to be destruptive from ball one β€” even if some questioned whether the ball was actually on the wicket. There were even calls from the opposition for lunch meat on the end of the fishing rod!

Rich and Aaron comfortably saw Ferrybridge home, guiding the team to an 8-wicket victory.

⭐ Standout Performances

β˜„οΈOscar Ball β€” 1 wicket & 3 catches

🎯 David Shaw β€” 5 wickets & 1 catch in a phenomenal spell.

πŸ’ͺ Mohit Paul β€” 2 wickets, 1 catch & 16 runs.

🧱 Rich Lumb β€” 21* to anchor the chase.

🏏 Aaron Snowdon β€” 16* to finish the job.

🧀 Frank Wass β€” Back behind the gloves after a long time away from the game and looked the part throughout.

A proper team performance from start to finish. Plenty of positives to take forward! πŸ‘

Ferrybridge 2nd XI fall to Balby

Ferrybridge Power Station CC 2nd XI faced Balby Recreation CC, winning the toss and electing to field first.

Balby got off to a strong start and posted an imposing 199/7 from their 40 overs. Ferrybridge battled hard with the ball, with Jack Johnson taking 2/45 and Waqar adding 2/41. Robert Smith, Archie Smith and James Brewitt also picked up a wicket each as Ferrybridge kept fighting throughout the innings.

With 200 needed for victory, Ferrybridge’s chase got off to a difficult start. Paul Wadsworth top-scored with an excellent 38, while Waqar contributed a valuable 29 to give the innings some much-needed resistance.

Matt Kelly added 6, Robert Smith made 7 and David Pickering 4, but regular wickets prevented Ferrybridge from building any real momentum. The team was eventually bowled out for 103 in 38.5 overs, falling 96 runs short.

A tough result, but plenty of positives to take from the effort, particularly with players stepping up and helping get a team on the field.

A massive thank you to Waqar and Matt Kelly for helping us out, and also to Lewis Walker for making himself available. Your support is hugely appreciated! πŸ‘

We go again next week. πŸπŸ’™
