Autumn is just around the corner! The nights are drawing in, there's a slight chill in the air and the shelves are starting to fill up with festive confectionery…. which must mean one thing. Christmas is coming!
We are sorry to say that this year there will be no Folkestone Living Advent Calendar. We have come to the end of 3 years of funding from the The National Lottery Community Fund which we are extremely grateful for. We will be taking this year to re-group, reflect and plan for a glorious festive 24 day adventure in 2026.Â
In the next few months we will be starting a sponsorship scheme where local businesses can get involved. If you or someone you know is able or interested in being a sponsor, please do get in touch.
Now for a bit of good news! Although there will be no Advent Calendar this year, we won’t be leaving you without any entertainment this December. We have partnered with the Harbour Arm to put on a one-day festive foray with performances from some Folkestone Advent Calendar Favourites! More details soon!

Joyeux Noel!
We headed down to the Goods yard this evening where on our arrival we found… No door? But we did see a wolf, a hyena and a woolly rhino! Very curious indeed!
All was to be revealed when the lights went down and a booming voice was heard on the speakers… 350 million years ago, there was a mega flood that separated the UK from France! Soon after we were treated to a wonderful film starring some Folkestone students travelling over to France to learn about this historic event that changed the landscape of the UK and France forever.
When the film finished we were invited to draw our hopes and aspirations for our wonderful, beautiful environment on the floor of the Goods Yard. We drew our ideas in chalk – a fitting full circle moment as it’s the chalk under the channel that was covered by the mega flood. What a fantastic educational and entertaining evening.
A special thanks goes to the students involved in the making of the film, Louella and the team at & for creating the film.

This evening we wandered down to Tontine Street where we found door 20 at
Touchbase is a local chairty that take an innovative and holistic approach to supporting adults and young people with physical disabilities, learning difficulties, neurodiversity and sensory impairment. Their door this evening was a wonderful exhibition of work that the participants had created, exploring their identities and the parts of themselves that people might not see. The exhibition includeda beautiful film, pictures, masks and sculptures, there was so much to see!
We loved walking around the different pieces of art and pondering the meaning behind each unique piece.
This evening we were based at Touchbase and were collecting for them as well.
Thank you to all the participants of the exhibition

This evening we headed down to where they had laid on an absolutely fantastic Shire-themed advent party!
The evening was full of folky-faire including Morris Dancers and folk music!
Earlier on in the week, Chaos Cards hosted a gorgeous Jim Jam workshop where members of our community were invited to come and create elven, nature inspired crowns to wear specially for the shire party. Everyone looked spectacular in their headgear and it was a true hobbit shindig full of joy and merriment.
They had laid on refreshments and extra special ‘PO-TAY-TOES’ for us all to take home, not to mention a huge Hobbit door welcomed us in as soon as we entered. We also have to mention the tall elf-like gentleman who recited a whole Tolkien poem all in elvish!
We finished the evening by having a go barn dancing together, such fun!
(Thankfully no dragons in sight)

A special thanks goes to all the performers of the evening and Chaos Cards staff for laying on such a spectacular night
