Cathkin Braes Golf Club, founded in 1888, is the second oldest golf club in the Clyde Valley, and is the oldest that is still on its original site. The Course sits more than 650 feet above Glasgow, which results in some stunning views over Glasgow to the Campsie Hills and the Southern Scottish Highlands and out to the isle of Arran off the west coast of Scotland. Although it is only 5 miles from the centre of Glasgow it is in the middle of the countryside, and is widely regarded as one of the best inland courses in the West of Scotland. The 6209 yards, Par 71, Course is a private one, owned by the Members, but welcomes visitors by prior arrangement. It is located in the centre of a triangle formed by Rutherglen, East Kilbride, and the village of Carmunnock, on the southeast of Glasgow.

Course Update

A few high traffic areas we have needed to rope off due to persistent heavy rsin this past week.

Many of you will have noticed that we have marked out the winter greens and labelled these as No Play Zones or NPZs to protect the winter putting surfaces as early as possible.

Maintenance

Roped off areas mentioned above will not be getting cut whilst they remain very wet.

All bunkers have been edged and eco bunker faces have been brushed.

Tees were all divoted during the weekly maintenance.

Aeration work continued with all tees receiving a solid tining. Aeration on greens, tees and path exits will continue over the coming weeks / months.

We began tidy up of area of stump grinding works behind the 16th tee.

Course Update

Greens staff have concentrated their efforts this past week on a programme of aeration for the greens due to the recent heavy rainfall.
Using a 6mm solid tine to combat and relieve compaction, thatch levels to allow tge greens to breathe. This also helps the anaerobic health of the greens and improves drainage thereby allowing the water to pe*****te the surface quicker.

Aeration work has started on the tees using 13mm solid tines to help in the same ways as described for the greens.

The wet weather dictated that the team were only hand cutting in support of the above

Another excellent win for our ladies Greenlees team today 👏

Playing at home against Troon, our team brought in a superb 6.5 - 2.5 victory. This keeps our ladies close to the top of the table with one match to play against Old Ranfurly next week.

Course Update

Damaged sleeper at the 13th tee requires replaced. Unfortunately these are a different size to those we have in stock but a replacement is being sourced.

Outside contractor has been on site looking at clearing out the ditch at the back of the 3rd and 6th greens and 4th and 7th tees. It is hoped this will give us a better look at the drainage issues affecting the 6th and 7th fairways.

New practice net installed with thanks to G.Russell for his help with this.

Kress robot mower trial ongoing on 7th fairway and rough.

Maintenance

Scott Anderson has been in stump grinding at the bottom of the 6th and behind the 16th tee.

Area in front of red tee at 5th has been thinned / cut back.

Eco bunker faces brushed

Sand top up to both bunkers at 2nd green

Plantations around 1st tee and academy neatened up.

Selection of tees have been given a liquid feed.

Reminder to members that we are hosting a divot party this coming Wednesday, the 2nd of September at 15.00 If you can spare a couple of hours to help out it would be greatly appreciated.

Our ladies Greenlees team are keeping up their momentum in the final stages of the 2026 season.

Playing at home against Irvine Bogside today, our ladies put in a very solid performance, winning 8 - 1.

With a home game against Troon next week & then an away one at Old Ranfurly, our team remains right in the mix for a league that looks to be going all the way this year.

Well done to everyone who participated in the qualifying rounds & into the matchplay section. The buzz around the Club was brilliant throughout the week & it was absolutely amazing to see so many spectators out watching. Our recent Mixed & Junior Opens were fully subscribed & a great success, with the course being enjoyed by everyone.
