Dan's Wild Catch

Just had another session for the tench, and it certainly produced!

I got to my swim mid afternoon, having decided to do an overnight and kip on the camping mat under my korum day shelter.

With this in mind, I took my time setting up. Baits prepared, rigs and the shelter all set up casually.

In went my first bait cast toward a far bank. Within 10 minutes, this first rod tore off and a plump 4lb tench was landed. Good start!

As the evening went on, I had a regular stream of bites, with 2 more tench over 4lb, a lovely perch close to 2lb, plenty roach and half a dozen unwelcome eels to make a mess of everything.

As night fell, I plopped a bait almost under the rod tip in the margin.

Just before 1030pm, the rod burst into life and a solid fish led me a merry dance through w**d beds and all over the place, until I finally saw it and scooped the net underneath. In that instant it looked Massive, and I was shaking as I was convinced I'd landed a big one!

On the mat and I got it weighed. With the sling 6lb 4oz, so bang on 5lb, equalling my best tench. Quite happy with that! (even if I did think it was bigger).

That was basically it for the night, so I got my head down for 4hrs sleep, and awoke to a very different day. Heavy rain, non stop, and next to no fish. Packed up at 830am and nipped down the road home again.

6 tench, plenty roach, a great perch and some snotty eels. Can't complain about that!
