This is the last morning I’ll be opening the balcony doors to this beautiful view.

The past six weeks have been a bit of a rollercoaster and the longest I’ve ever taken my business on the road.

If you’ve been following along, you’ll know the trip started with our car breaking down almost as soon as we left British soil.

After some speedy roadside assistance, we made it to our cosy cottage in the South of France and quickly got into a nice rhythm. Sunny days, fresh local food, and the perfect balance of work and rest - coaching clients and running workshops from my little desk, with the doors open wide to the stunning French countryside.

Then things shifted when one of our sweet dogs became unwell, and sadly we lost him quickly and he passed far too young.

It hit us all hard. And poor Finn had never known life without his little furry friend. Still, such is life, we carried on, just the three of us and spent the final part of the trip exploring the area around Valencia.

Overall, we’ve had a wonderful time. Long walks on the beach before starting the working day. Late evening swims at the end of it.

Coming home without Harris feels bittersweet, but I’m so glad we took the trip as it’s all part of our plan for a more flexible way of working.

On yesterday’s morning walk, we got talking to a guy from San Francisco. He and his family are on the last leg of a 12-month trip around the world. Now – there’s an idea!

Life’s too short to keep putting things off!

Looking forward to getting back to Scotland early next week. The sun is still shining there... right? 👀

☕ Black coffee - direct, no-nonsense, says what needs saying
🥛 Latte - smooth, approachable, likes everyone to feel included
⚡ Espresso - quick, intense, gets to the point fast (sometimes too fast)
🧊 Iced coffee - calm under pressure, cool delivery, emotionally steady
😅 Decaf - polite, thoughtful, but often holds back the full opinion

Bit of Friday fun, share your communication order in the comments. I’ll go first!

Three tiny tweaks that could massively improve your communication

• Listen to understand - not to reply
• Pause - silence can speak volumes
• Say less - simplicity brings clarity

We chase impact.

We chase influence

We chase connection

But sometimes, what we’re trying to say gets lost in the noise.

In the rush to respond.

In the clutter of too many words.

In the pressure to be the loudest voice.

Good communication isn’t always about saying more.

Often, it’s about being present with less.

So let me ask you -

What’s one shift you’ve made that’s helped you become a better communicator?

The other evening, I passed a man with two restless dogs and suddenly, I was seven years old again.

What does a childhood memory have to do with executive behaviour in the boardroom?

More than you’d think.

Read how the younger version of ourselves can show up when we’re under pressure and this could be affecting you, or your team in my latest article!

When your predecessor failed to secure investment and you have one chance to persuade the board!

Jane was determined to make her first 100 days count.

After hearing that her predecessor had been rejected time after time for the investment their department desperately needed, she knew she had to do something differently.

She needed to speak to people who had been where she was before

And understood what strategy to use so she could get it right the first time.
Without relevant support offered within her role, Jane joined The Leadership Mastermind Network™.

She brought her challenge to her weekly virtual meet-up, and after a few weeks of brainstorming and learning from fellow senior leaders in the same field, she felt confident about her presentation.

With only one shot at this, and her drive to make an impact in the first 100 days, the pressure was on.

Jane didn’t just secure the investment - she received plaudits from the executive team.

The LMN™ community was delighted to hear the news when she shared it in our exclusive WhatsApp group and discussed her learnings on the next weekly call.

The Leadership Mastermind Network™ is the secret tool senior leaders use to drive results and advance their careers.

If I had a magic wand, the one change I’d make in organisations would be to give every leader the confidence to have the conversations that are truly needed.

Cut out the lack of clarity, the second-guessing, the posturing, the unhealthy politicking, the fear, the misplaced anger, the prevaricating.

The spell would enable every leader to have honest, transparent, respectful conversations that have the power to drive the changes we desire.

I guarantee you’d find that productivity, motivation, and morale would skyrocket.

The culture would be one of psychological safety. One where people feel it’s okay to challenge and be challenged, to give and receive feedback, to be vulnerable without being seen as weak, and to ask for help without being seen as incompetent.

Unfortunately, I don’t have a magic wand, but I do have the next best thing:
A leadership conversation framework.

It’s been proven to work again and again.

It saves time and delivers big results.

It’s called Precision Engineered Communication™.

It’s normally part of my membership packages, but this week I’m giving it away for free as I know it’s something many leaders need right now.
Comment “framework” and I’ll ping it over!

This is the book I recommend most often to leaders I work with. And re-read personally too.

What are your expectations for the week ahead?

How are you making it tougher than it needs to be, just because that’s what you expect?

What successes can you focus on instead?

Have a great week!

If you don’t believe it, you won’t achieve it.

And no, this isn’t just another fluffy motivational quote.

It can be the difference between achieving your goals or feeling frustrated and disappointed at your lack of progress.

Inside The Leadership Mastermind Network™, we’ve been working closely with leaders on goal setting. The mindset behind the goal matters just as much as the action plan.

If you don’t believe your goal is possible, even a little doubt will pull you off course.

Confidence dips.

Fear takes over.

You hesitate.

You stop.

And the goal slips away or gets pushed back again.

It becomes a self-fulfilling cycle. I see it all the time.

When this happens, we always return to the 4 Cs:

Competence, Confidence, Communication and Culture.

One of these is usually at the heart of the block. Once you know which one, you can shift from fear to action with purpose.

This is just a quick insight. If you’d like access to the tools we use—like the Fear to Action framework - reach out to join The Leadership Mastermind Network™.

Let’s create a solid foundation to ensure you overcome doubt in yourself or doubt in your goals today!

“I don’t have time to join the Leadership Mastermind Network™.

I heard this on a discovery call last week - and I get it.

As senior leaders, your time is stretched thin. Budgets are tight, teams are under pressure, and taking on one more thing can feel impossible.
But here’s what our members quickly realize:

Joining the Leadership Mastermind Network™ doesn’t take time — it saves it.

It accelerates progress.

In our problem solving sessions, leaders tackle their toughest challenges and get actionable advice from peers who’ve already been there.

The results?

Last week in our 10-week Breakthrough Focus™ programme, we focussed on setting goals, and it sparked some really interesting conversations.

One key insight stood out.

We often get caught up in aims rather than goals - or we set goals without a clear aim behind them.

Let me explain.

An aim is your bigger picture or reason for doing something, but it’s not always fully in your control.

A goal, on the other hand, is in your control. It’s the specific, actionable step you can take toward that broader aim.

And we need both.

When setting goals, ask yourself: “How will I achieve this?” Then work backwards to create a plan and a timeline. As the old saying goes, a goal without a date is just a dream.

The aim is what carries you through when motivation dips. On those days, come back to the question: “Why do I want this?” (Think Simon Sinek’s Start with Why.)

When you’ve got the how, the why, and a date, that’s when progress becomes real.

Until then, I’m afraid it’s just daydreaming!

Our members chose one to three goals to work on during the 10-week Breakthrough Focus™ programme, and I can’t wait to hear their results.

So how about you?

How do you plan to achieve your goals?
