Golf injuries -(part 2) Preventative measures
As previously mentioned, one of the best way to prevent the most common golf injuries is to exercise and in particular to follow a programme by a certified golf fitness trainer who will follow the corrective exercise continuum.
The four stages of Corrective Exercise Continuum
1.Inhibit- self myofascial release (also known as foam rolling the muscle area)
2. Lengthen - increase the range of motion and length of the muscle (also known as static stretching)
3. Activate -target a certain area with a single joint movement such as a bicep curl
4. Integrate - the final stage where we combine all phases into a compound dynamic movement, for example, a standing lateral pull down.
Below is a sample elbow and wrist corrective programme.

Golf injuries (part 1) 🚑
Surprisingly Golfers are very prone to injury with 7 out of 10 amateurs picking up some kind of injury over the time they play golf.
Eighty percent of golf injuries are simply from overuse. The most common injuries in amateurs are usually found in the elbow, lower back and shoulder whereas professional golfers injuries are usually located in the lower back, wrist and shoulder.
Many of these injuries could be prevented by making sure you have a proper warm before a game with a minimum of 15 minutes spent stretching and loading muscles in order to prime them for swing speeds of between 85mph and 114mph.
In addition, strength training targeting a golfers most commonly used muscles (glutes, lats, deltoids, arms and core) would help to prevent many golf injuries. 🏋️♀️
There is also an argument for training opposite muscles. This can be achieved through swinging your golf club using your non dominant side (as demonstrated in my Superspeed videos).🏌🏻♂️
I believe this to be the most effective type of training to help your body achieve muscular balance as we are loading up and training the opposite muscles used in our normal swing.
