Saltire City FC are delighted to welcome Emrys Rowland to the club as Head of Goalkeeping ahead of the 2026 season.
Emrys joins Saltire City after most recently working in SWPL 2 with Stirling University Women’s and brings a wealth of coaching experience from across the Scottish game.
Originally from Shrewsbury, Emrys played as a goalkeeper throughout his career, including time within Aston Villa’s Academy system. His passion for the position led him into coaching, where he has worked with clubs including Queen’s Park, Stirling Albion and Stirling University.
Manager Paul Davies said:
“Bringing Emrys to the club is a real boost for us. Goalkeepers are a specialist position and it’s important they receive the right level of coaching and support. Emrys has worked across different levels of the game and brings excellent knowledge, energy and attention to detail.
“He has already made a positive impact with our goalkeeping group and will play a key role in developing our players and driving standards throughout the club.”
Emrys added:
“I’m excited to be part of a brand-new project and look forward to helping develop goalkeepers while contributing to the club’s ambitions both on and off the pitch.”
Welcome to Saltire City, Emrys. 🖤💛

Saltire City FC are delighted to welcome goalkeeper Ronan Gemmell to the club ahead of the 2026 season.
Ronan arrives with valuable senior experience despite his young age, having been involved in senior football since he was 16 with both Wishaw and Blantyre Victoria. During that time, he gained experience across first-team and Under-20 football, learning from experienced coaches and senior players while developing his game both on and off the pitch.
Speaking after signing, Ronan said:
“Senior football has taught me a great deal and helped shape me as a player. When I spoke to Paul about the vision and ambitions for Saltire City, I was sold on the project straight away. There’s real ambition behind the club and I’m excited to be part of the journey and help the team achieve success.”
Manager Paul Davies added:
“Ronan is a goalkeeper with a strong mentality and a real desire to improve. He’s gained good experience at a young age and has settled into the environment quickly. We’ve assembled a strong goalkeeping department and the competition between the goalkeepers will only help drive standards higher. We’re delighted to welcome him to Saltire City

Saltire City FC are pleased to welcome goalkeeper Kieron McGroarty to the club ahead of the new season.

A committed and ambitious goalkeeper, Kieron becomes the third goalkeeper to sign for the club as preparations continue for Saltire City’s inaugural campaign.
Manager Paul Davies believes the competition for places will benefit everyone involved.
“Kieron has shown a real desire to step up to senior football and has spent time training with a number of clubs as he looked for the right opportunity. His attitude has been excellent from the moment he came in.
He joins a strong goalkeeping group alongside Ronan Gemmell and Cameron Crawford. All three goalkeepers have performed well in training and that’s exactly what we want. Healthy competition drives standards and gives everyone something to strive for. We’re delighted to welcome Kieron to the club and look forward to working with him.”

✍️ NEW SIGNING | EWAN GEORGE
Saltire City FC have completed the signing of promising full-back Ewan George from Dumbarton U20s as preparations continue for the club’s first season in senior football.
George arrives with a strong pedigree from his time at Drumchapel United, where he captained the side, won Player of the Year and finished as the club’s top goalscorer. Comfortable in a number of positions, the attacking defender is regarded as a player with both energy and versatility.
Manager Paul Davies believes Ewan’s character was just as important as his football ability.
“Ewan is exactly the type of player we want at Saltire City. He’s ambitious, hardworking and wants to improve. He’s played in good environments, understands standards and has a real desire to test himself at senior level. We’re delighted he’s chosen to be part of this journey.”
For George, the opportunity to join a club at the very start of its story was a major factor.
“I’m really excited to take this step and challenge myself at a higher level. Saltire City is a club with big ambitions and I’m proud to be joining at the beginning. I can’t wait to get started.”
Another exciting young talent joins the project as Saltire City continue to build towards their historic first campaign in the South of Scotland Football League.

First Week at the Club ⚽️
A really positive first week at the club. The focus has been on bringing the group together, setting standards early and building relationships ahead of pre-season.
The attitude, professionalism and intensity from the players have been excellent, and several trialists have also impressed so far.
There’s already a strong sense of commitment developing within the squad.
It’s also been great working with the coaching staff for the first time. Different ideas and strengths are already coming together well, creating a good environment moving forward.
Another exciting part of the journey is continuing to learn alongside our AI partners as the system develops. The aim isn’t to replace football knowledge, but to use technology to better understand the game from patterns of play and transitions to player development and performance analysis. To be honest I’m personally a bit of a technophobe and some of it I find mind blowing but it’s great to learn, we also have a meeting today with a South African company who are keen to help with its development which is exciting for the club. Our football always comes first, with innovation supporting everything behind the scenes. It’s excited for what’s ahead 👊

A productive evening for Saltire City FC last night.
Our staff came together to discuss the implementation of our player scouting system, while out on the pitch there was a real sense of momentum building.
Coaches and players arrived early, many meeting face-to-face for the first time.
Once the cones were down, bibs were on and balls rolling, everything started to click into place quicker than expected.
22 players put in the work in tough, hot conditions, delivering a high-intensity session that you wouldn’t normally expect at this stage of the season.
Standards are rising
