Rothes Juniors Yellows 2013s 3–6 Cupar Colts 2013s
After the dramatic 5-5 draw between these sides earlier in the season, where Rothes found themselves 3-0 down inside the opening 15 minutes, the message before kick-off was simple: keep things tight from the start and give ourselves a platform to build from.
The game exploded into life from the first whistle, with both teams playing at a blistering pace. Strong defending and attacking play at either end meant chances were limited early on, and it took a slice of fortune for Cupar to break the deadlock after 10 minutes. A mix-up in the Rothes defence allowed Cupar to capitalise and take a 1-0 lead.
To their credit, Rothes responded superbly. They began creating a succession of chances and putting the Cupar defence under increasing pressure. Eventually the breakthrough came when Rhuaridh caused all sorts of problems at the back before firing beyond the goalkeeper to level the scores at 1-1.
With momentum swinging in Rothes' favour, they continued to push forward, but football can be cruel at times. Cupar struck again against the run of play and, as Rothes tried to regroup before half-time, Cupar nicked a third to make it 3-1 at the break. There was almost a lifeline before the interval when Tyler came close to getting on the end of a wonderful chipped free-kick from Cian.
The second half started positively for Rothes as they looked to get themselves back into the contest. Unfortunately, Cupar's pace in behind proved effective and two quick through balls saw them extend their lead to 5-1 with around 20 minutes remaining.
Despite the scoreline, Rothes continued to battle. Cian rattled the post with a superb left-footed effort, while Euan produced a brilliant run that left the Cupar defence trailing in his wake.
A special mention must also go to Toby in goal. While the scoreline suggests a comfortable afternoon for Cupar, the reality was very different. Toby produced a string of outstanding saves throughout the match to keep Rothes in the contest, showing bravery, sharp reactions and excellent handling. His highlight came in the second half when he somehow pulled off a remarkable double save, denying Cupar twice in quick succession and earning deserved praise from teammates and spectators alike.
Then came the spark that reignited the game.
Cian timed his run perfectly before calmly slotting a left-foot finish beyond the Cupar goalkeeper like a seasoned striker to make it 5-2. Moments later, Euan burst through with blistering pace and finished confidently to reduce the deficit further to 5-3.
Game on.
Rothes sensed an opportunity and almost found another. A 4-v-1 breakaway looked certain to make it 5-4, but a slight mix-up in communication saw the chance drift wide. Shortly afterwards, Cian stepped up for a free-kick from a range that looked perfect for him. His effort was magnificent, clipping the crossbar with the goalkeeper beaten.
As Rothes pushed forward searching for a dramatic comeback, Cupar found space on the counter attack and capitalised on another defensive mix-up. Their forward showed great composure to finish well and make it 6-3.
That proved to be the final action of an entertaining and hard-fought contest, with Cupar running out 6-3 winners.
Man of the Match: Cian, whose all-action display included a goal, a post, a crossbar and several moments of real quality throughout the game.
Special Mention: Toby, whose outstanding goalkeeping display and string of excellent saves — including a brilliant double save in the second half — ensured Rothes remained competitive throughout the match.
As has been said many times this season, the level of effort, commitment and determination shown by this group of players has been remarkable. Every player gave everything for the team once again and they should all hold their heads high.

Match report for Cupar Colts 5-5 Rothes Yellows
Another emotional rollercoaster from the Yellows in a thrilling 10-goal friendly against Cupar Colts.
After what can only be described as a “rousing” pre-match team talk, Rothes found themselves 3-0 down inside the opening 15 minutes. Slack passing combined with an optimistic effort from 35 yards had the coaches scratching their heads.
But in true Rothes fashion, the response was immediate.
A perfectly weighted through ball from Euan split the Cupar defence wide open, and Rhuaridh was on hand to slot home into an empty net to spark the comeback.
Moments later, Rhuaridh was brought down just outside the box, giving Rothes a huge opportunity to claw another one back. Up stepped Rhys, whose beautifully struck free-kick nestled into the keeper’s bottom-right corner. Game on.
Unfortunately, Rhys’ afternoon was cut short through injury before half-time, but on came Cian — and with his very first touch, he found the net. Another excellent move down the right-hand side ended with a cutback into the box, allowing the makeshift striker to calmly finish and level things at 3-3 going into the break.
Rothes carried that momentum into the second half and looked determined to complete the comeback. The breakthrough finally came courtesy of a superb whipped corner from AJ, and despite being the smallest player on the park, Lewis rose highest with a stooping header that looped over the keeper to make it 4-3 Rothes.
Cupar responded quickly with a breakaway goal to level things at 4-4, but the drama was far from over.
A frantic scramble inside the box saw shots saved and efforts crash off the woodwork before the ball finally broke to Josh, who showed incredible composure to fire emphatically into the top corner and restore Rothes’ lead at 5-4.
However, Cupar had one final twist in store. A dangerous whipped cross into the box was unfortunately turned into his own net by Stewart to bring the scoring to 5-5.
Both teams pushed for a winner in the closing stages, with chances at either end, but Toby produced a world-class save late on to preserve the draw.
Man of the Match goes to Euan — although he’ll still be attending Stewart’s shooting lessons on Monday night.
Couldn’t be prouder of the lads and the character shown to battle back from 3-0 down.

The Yellows faced Templehall today in what turned out to be a tightly contested and exciting match. Full of confidence from last week’s performance, they picked up exactly where they left off.
Constant pressure from the Yellows earned a corner, and when the ball was cleared out, Lewis was quickest to react. He drove to the byline, danced past two defenders with brilliant footwork, and fired the ball into the net, leaving the keeper with no chance.
Templehall responded almost immediately after the restart. A brief lapse in concentration allowed the home side through on goal, and they levelled the match at 1–1.
As halftime approached, a rapid turnover in play and a couple of mistimed tackles opened the door for Templehall to grab a second. The whistle blew with the Yellows trailing 2–1.
After a reset, a team talk, and some juice, the Yellows came back out with purpose. Strong defensive work and determined midfield challenges sparked new life into the team. A perfectly weighted killer pass from Olly sent Archie through on goal, and with plenty still to do, he calmly slotted the ball past the keeper to make it 2–2.
With around 15 minutes left, the Yellows continued to push. The ball found Lewis again, and using his pace and skill he drove to the edge of the box before being brought down.
Up stepped Cian, 20 yards out. Once the defence was set, the referee blew his whistle and Cian unleashed a powerful strike. With the keeper producing a good save, Josh reacted fastest, heading home for his third goal in two matches.
Another outstanding performance from the Yellows today. Even when behind, their heads never dropped. Their work off the ball was just as impressive as their play on it.
The boys are really starting to gel as a team and should be incredibly proud of themselves just as the coaches are proud of them.
