COURSE UPDATE
Greens are still being cut at 5mm as we are still experiencing overnight lows . Along with the rain we’re having some heat will kick everything on . Then we will reduce height of cut which will see uneven growth greatly reduced .
We are currently working to clear up trees that have fallen and the debris that is left behind . This will take time as there many down.
Fairway heights will be reduced next week
And semi rough lowered.
The culverts will be installed next week hopefully. Can we please be mindful that the machine operator sees you before playing .
This will be my last couple of weeks at Glenrothes before moving on to Dunnikier as Head Greenkeeper . Andy Richards my Deputy will take over at Glenrothes . Andy has been with me since I took over and is a great asset to the course . I wish to thank the committee and members for their support over the years and wish them all the best in the future.
Regards Chris

Course update
GREENS
The greens have came through the winter well and will kick on as the temperatures rise . We have lowered the height of cut to 5mm and will be giving them a light verti cut.
TEES
Tee mats will be removed towards the end of the week with the full tees going back on . 15th tee top has been turfed and will be in play soon.
FAIRWAY
Fairways were cut last week with some being reshaped . The fairway mower height of cut will be lowered as growth kicks in .
SEMI ROUGH
There are many areas of the rough that have debris from trees . We will mulch these up with our old blades before replacing with new ones .
TREES
The last storm hit the trees hard with the 3rd hole losing up to 30 . We will be continuing to work on areas that have fallen trees.
DITCH
The bankings along the back 9 will be seeded shortly . These areas will not continuous work throughout the season with overseeding .

This week we began the ditch reprofiling works which forms part of our Nature Restoration Project. The ditches were too linear and steep edged, and our objective is to create small meanders and softening of the bankings which will enhance the freshwater channel, create a more biodiverse habitat, and assist with flood alleviation.
We have ordered ball scoops for retrieving balls . Bankings will be GUR and burn will be penalty as always .

Thursday 9th January
This afternoon we did a further inspection of the course as you can see from the photos below we are a long way from thawing . The forecast for the next couple of days isn’t looking favourable. We will continue to inspect the course daily , from Sunday onwards temperatures look better so fingers crossed .

Thursday 14th November
As we approach the middle of November we are in a good place with full greens being in play throughout November . Fairways have been cut this week and aprons tidied up . Tomorrow we will be cutting greens, changing holes and raking bunkers . Next week weather is looking a lot more like winter with temperatures falling below zero . As many of you are aware the 8th fairway was very wet last winter. We have identified where the clay pipe was burst and will be running a new perforated pipe to ensure water continues through .

First green
We completed turfing the first green today . The green will remain off for the foreseeable as we allow the turf to knit together . We will be applying light dressings throughout the winter and continuing to aerate in between drain lines .
08/11/2024
This week we began draining the first green. Next week will see us add the pipe and re turf the drain lines . If everyone playing could walk round between the bunker and the trees this would minimise wear between 2nd tee and first green.

Yesterday we sprayed fungicide on the greens . The mixture of mild temperatures and damp mornings has seen a rise in disease activity .

First green
This week we are beginning to drain the first green . We have found a 3 inch perforated pipe which runs down to the ditch at the bottom of the fairway . We have run water down the pipe to ensure it’s clear . The first will be off for the foreseeable .
