💣Myth Buster 💣

❌Myth:

Dropping a baby's last nap of the day will stop night waking's

✅Truth:

Dropping a little one’s last nap can lead to a little one becoming over tired if they are not truly ready for this to happen. Therefore, this will increase the risk of resistance at bedtime, further night waking’s, shorter length of sleep overnight and shorter naps.

The term overtiredness can be described as a little one having not had enough sleep over a 24 hour period. The longer they are awake the higher the level of sleep pressure is. This is due to the increased levels of cortisol and adrenaline in their body which makes it harder for them to fall asleep and/or stay asleep.

By creating a longer period of time of being awake will have the opposite effect of the intended nap drop.

So, what can really help reduce night waking’s caused by a sleep imbalance?

🕛Learning your little one’s sleep needs over a 24 hour period.
🪟Making sure that wake windows are appropriate for your little one based on their age and stage.
😴Adjusting time of naps to allow for corresponding wake windows to support sleep balance.
🧠Taking note of your little one’s mood- this can be a good indicator if the sleep balance is correct or incorrect.

If you would like to know what your little one's wake windows should be to support their sleep balance over a 24 hour period then comment below 'SLEEP BALANCE'.

😴 Sleep deprivation can be the thief of joy, patience, love, and connection.

It can impact your mood, memory, and confidence as a Mum.

It's not just tired - it's bone deep, foggy brained, running on empty tired.

Sleep deprivation is not only caused by newborn sleep patterns, it is also due to huge hormonal shifts, anxiety, overthinking, and being hyper vigilant; 'is the baby breathing?', 'why are they making that sound?', 'they're fed, changed, winded, but they are still crying or unsettled - why?'

🌟Nap when you can - even a 20 - to 30-minute rest can make all the difference!
🌟Share the load - let your partner, family, and friends help. They can feed baby, do a nappy change, or settle baby to let you rest - you do not have to do it alone!
🌟Create a rest friendly environment - dark, cool, and quiet.
🌟Reframe expectations - any 'to-do's' like housework, the food shop, and life admin can wait!
🌟Limit caffeine intake after early afternoon.

❌️This weight is not yours to carry alone.

When you are up for the 2am feed tonight, know that there are other Mums right where you are, a community of tired hearts - You Are Not Alone 🥰💟

Tag a new Mum below to tell them they are seen and heard 💜

💤 Active Sleep V Quiet Sleep 💤

An Active Sleep state is what we as adults would refer to as REM sleep- which is a lighter sleep stage.

Newborns can spend upto 50% of their total sleep in this state.

🧐So what does it look like?

Facial movements, body movements or jerks, irregular breathing, little grunts, whimpers even short cries and easily roused to wake.

Whereas a Quiet Sleep state is what is referred to as Non Rapid Eye Movement and is a deeper sleep state.

🧐 This looks like your baby is still, no/little eye movements, relaxed facial expression, still body with little movement, slow and steady breathing and much harder to rouse.

It can be difficult to gauge whether your little one is waking from a sleep or is in an Active Sleep state (so still asleep).

That's why it's better to try to pause before going to them or pick them up as they may not be waking.

As they get older the amount of time in the Active Sleep state will decrease to roughly 30% as they reach the 4-month mark.

💓Both of these sleep states are normal, important and healthy for your little one.

Good morning!

I realised that I haven't shared any visuals of my website and what it looks like when navigating it.

So I've created a screen recording to show you what it looks like and all the different parts.

I am adding to the guides page with a couple of new products so keep an eye out 🧐 .

What was or is your pregnancy craving?

I'll go first!

Mine was jalapeños. I could literally sit with a jar of them and eat them like popcorn. The thought of that now 🤢. I was also left with a sensitive stomach afterwards I am assuming the amount of spice I must have consumed during my pregnancy; me and spicy food do not like eachother at all 😓🙈😅.

Now it's your turn!
