Kingsway Cruising

Cruising plan.......

We are looking for extra crew for some planned voyages in October, November and December 2020. Details below, please get in touch if you are interested:
S/Y Endeavour will complete her initial refit by the end of September.

She is a Colvic Victor 40 ketch. She will have all new safety equipment and electronics, as well as hull treatment, new seacocks and standing and running rigging. After some sea trials and shake down trips the plan is to get in three cruises before Christmas. The details are as follows:

***24 Oct - 3 Nov 2020 (outside dates) Solent, Poole, Weymouth***

***16 - 28 Nov 2020 (outside dates) Gosport to Dover, Ramsgate, Medway***

***7-17 Dec 2020 (outside dates) Medway to France and Channel Islands, back to Gosport***

The boat has up to 4 berths available in addition to Colin (mate) and myself. I am an RYA YM Offshore and mate is a Day Skipper with deep sea commercial shipping experience. The costs will be Β£25 per person per day contribution towards berthing, fuel, food and running costs. Bedding will be provided, but not foul weather clothing.

Crew will be responsible for their own travel to and from the boat. It is not possible to socially distance on a 40ft boat, so anyone joining us will have to be Covid 19 symptom-free and accept that they will be in relatively close contact with their fellow crew. People can come for part or all of a cruise, the minimum length of stay is 4 days.

Check your diary's and get in touch

Osmosis treatment is in full swing onboard this beautiful 30 year old ketch. Some hard work over the last month to get to this point but really pleased with the outcome and looking forward to the next stage

Get in touch for your boat care plan.

Clipper Round the World Yacht Race

During this lockdown this is a great watch

π—¦π—”π—©π—˜ π—§π—›π—˜ π——π—”π—§π—˜

Join us on 22 April for the Facebook premiere of Sir Robin Knox-Johnston: Sailing Legend. At 7pm (UK time), we will be live streaming the documentary that looks into the man who became the first person to sail solo and non-stop around the world.

In his own words, Sir Robin explains the story behind his epic achievement over 50 years ago. Hear from Ben Ainslie Alex Thomson Racing, Sir Chris Bonington and Dee Caffari on how Sir Robin continues to inspire others to push themselves to their limits and be adventurous.

Following the premiere, Sir Robin will be on hand to answer your questions in the comments feed where you can ask him about his sailing career, from what it was like to be in isolation with no communications to training ordinary people to become ocean racers.

COVID-19 lockdown quiz question 18 ANSWER:

Yesterday's quiz question was particularly popular and sparked some good debate. The answer is quite long so this post is just about yesterday's question and I'll post again later with a question for today.

The short answer is Boat A has finished correctly. Boat B has not finished. World Sailing have done a case study about this exact situation (with a better diagram!) which I have attached below. This explains why A has finished but B has not.

In my opinion (which is reflected by World Sailing) this is poor Race Management and to avoid confusion the Committee Vessel should have been positioned on the other side of the mark. However, it is NOT improper action. This means that this situation may occur and you would NOT get redress if you finished incorrectly so hopefully this is a good learning opportunity!

Stay tuned for today's question!

Stay safe everyone.

A brilliant week on the water representing the Royal Engineers in this year's Army Offshore Regatta. Great conditions and challenging racing throughout the week.

We managed to walk away with trophies and lots of fond memories.

Offshore passage race - 1st
IRC combined overall - 1st
Windward leeward series - 2nd
Carlier Plate - Cruising Decision
Seamanship Plate - Adam Hearn

No wind this morning at the regatta unfortunately, so I delivered lessons to the fleet on Race starts and Tactics and our committee delivered a lesson on flag procedure and course lay out.
