🔥 PRE-SEASON FRIENDLY: KIRMINGTON 1-4 GRIMSBY UNITED 🔥

Another strong pre-season test for Grimsby United, this time away against a strong Kirmington side — and the boys were at it from the very first whistle!

After a couple of weeks’ break, the lads came flying out of the blocks, pressing high and playing with plenty of energy. It didn’t take long to break the deadlock.

A great ball put Noah Melhuish through on goal, and Noah used his strength to outmuscle the defender before calmly lifting the ball over the advancing keeper for a lovely finish.

Minutes later, more great pressing saw Toby pick the ball up on the right, cut inside and absolutely rifle one into the top corner from outside the box! 🚀 Another goal that is quickly becoming Toby’s trademark!

And just a minute later, we had another! Winning the ball back quickly from the kick-off, it fell to Romeo outside the box, who produced a cheeky d**k over the keeper and into the top corner. 🎯

A flying start, but Kirmington responded well and created some good chances. Morgan was called upon a few times and made some excellent saves, but Kirmington did manage to pull one back before half-time with a lovely finish.

With positions changed around in the second half, the boys continued to battle hard and created plenty of chances. Leo Baldock looked particularly dangerous, going close three or four times, but we just couldn’t find that fourth goal.

That was until five minutes from time…

Fin went on one of his trademark dazzling runs, cut inside and played Bobby Fenty through on goal. Bobby’s heavy first touch made it a 50/50 with the keeper, but he bravely dived in, won the ball and sent it into the net to seal the win! 💪⚽️

A really strong performance all round, but there could only be one Player of the Match…

⭐ NOAH MELHUISH ⭐

A superb first-half performance up front, bullying the defenders and capping it off with a lovely deft finish for his goal. Then, moving to centre-back in the second half, Noah looked like he had played there his whole life. Outstanding! 👏

A great result and another valuable test as we continue building towards the new season.

UTGU 🖤🤍⚽️

Another friendly for the boys today against Clee Town Meggies. It was hard work in the heat with only one sub available, but the lads put in a great shift.

We played some really good football in spells and dominated most of the game. Unfortunately, a couple of mistakes led to their two goals, and despite creating plenty of chances, we just couldn’t find the back of the net enough times, so the game finished as a draw.

Overall, it was another great workout for the boys. We’ll now get back to training over the next couple of weeks while a few players are away on holiday.

🏆 Player of the Match: Toby!

A brilliant performance from Toby today, scoring both of our goals and showing fantastic quick feet throughout. He looked a threat every time he got on the ball, and his Phil Foden-esque screamer into the top corner was unstoppable—no goalkeeper was getting anywhere near that one! 👏⚽

Another friendly last night with just a bare nine players, as a couple of the lads were away on holiday, against Immingham Pilgrims.

The boys started brilliantly in the first half, pressing high from the first whistle barely allowing Immingham out of their own half. The pressure paid off as we raced into a 3-0 lead through goals from Fin, Toby, and the pick of the bunch, Fenners played a perfectly weighted through ball for Olle, who timed his run to perfection before calmly slotting home our third. Unfortunately, Olle then picked up an injury, leaving us temporarily down to eight players, and the visitors managed to pull one back before the break.

Credit to Immingham, who battled back to level the game at 3-3 in the second half. They made it really tough for the boys, who were understandably tiring with no substitutes available. Despite that, the lads never gave up. Late in the game, Albie floated a superb free-kick over the defence for Fin, who took it brilliantly before smashing a left-footed finish into the roof of the net to seal the winner.

A special mention to Toby and Freddie, who both made really strong debuts. Toby was a danger every time he got on the ball and capped off his performance with a well-taken goal, while Freddie controlled the midfield with his close control, composure, and brilliant range of passing. Both should be really proud of their first appearances.

Spenno set the tone for our pressing game from the very first whistle. He won his battles all over the pitch, was always positive in possession by looking to play forward, and made several outstanding covering interceptions. A top performance from start to finish.

Today we say goodbye to two players who will be leaving our team, and we want to take a moment to thank them for everything they have given us.

Haz and Ethan, it has been an absolute pleasure having you both as part of our football family.

Your hard work, commitment and attitude have always been appreciated, and you should both be incredibly proud of how far you have come.

Although we’re sad to see you go, we’re excited to see what the future holds for you both. Keep enjoying your football, keep working hard and most importantly, keep smiling.
