Really enjoyed visiting this week to demonstrate the Korean martial art of Hapkido to the students.

This is a a basic punch - the back foot and hips must twist to send more energy through the body and beyond the fist, making the punch much more powerful

Like all hapkido self-defence skills, it uses simple technique rather than strength, which is is what makes this traditional Korean martial art suitable for all shapes, sizes and fitness levels.

Our Harrow branch trains every Tuesday evenings, where you’ll learn takedowns, punches, kicks and much more.

This skill is a pull-away, and is one of the first skills you learn in Hapkido. I have ki energy in my hand, then I'm going to bring my left elbow down to my hip, breaking through the vulnerable 'gateway' in my opponent's grip while she tries to pin me against a wall.

Pull-aways performed correctly and practiced consistently means it can be easy to escape if someone grabs you.
