A new feature for Little & Broad Haven Lifeboat social media is our monthly water safety message.
September's message is backing up the RLSS Don't Drink & Drown Campaign aimed at University Students as they start their new term.
Please share this post and tell your student family menbers & friends. This information needs to be seen everywhere in the UK, not just by the coast.
University life is full of new experiences - keep water safety in mind!
It's important to remember that water and alcohol can be a dangerous combination.
Every year, people lose their lives after entering the water or accidentally falling into rivers, canals, docks, lakes or other waterways while under the influence of alcohol or drugs. Many never intended to enter the water at all.
Stay Away from the Edge:
Alcohol and drugs reduce awareness, affect judgement poorly and increase risk.
Important Water Safety Advice for University Students:
1) If you're drinking outdoors, avoid sitting or gathering close to the water's edge.
2)Plan your journey and choose routes away from water. Plan ahead and choose routes that avoid rivers, canals, docks and waterfronts. Stay in well-lit, populated areas and keep back from the water’s edge - especially at night.
3) . Stay together and help friends get home safely.
4)Never enter the water. Alcohol affects balance, reaction time and swimming ability. Even strong swimmers are at risk.

46% of accidental drownings in those aged 18-25 involve alcohol and/or drugs, and many incidents happen simply while walking near water, not intending to enter it at all. (Source: WAID 2018-2023).

RESCHEDULED.
The broadcast of tonight's new episode of Saving Lives at Sea, where we feature, has been postponed due to a late change in the episode order. We remain proud to support the series, which helps highlight the dedication of our volunteer lifesavers and the important safety messages that can help people stay safe around the coast.
We look forward to sharing an updated broadcast date in due course and would like to thank viewers for their understanding and continued support of the RNLI and our lifesaving work.

A brilliant evening yesterday at the annual Pembrokeshire Lifeguard Biathlon. The challenge is a 1.5km run from the Broad Haven Lifeguard hut over the hill to the Little Haven Point (in wetsuits), then a 750m sea swim back to the Broad Haven slip. This year saw a turnout of twenty participants in beautiful conditions, including some of our crew, and the boat was out on exercise keeping tabs on their progress. Well done to all 👏 👏

A big thanks to all those that came to our open day yesterday! Always a pleasure to open the doors, chat about our station and share our rescue stories. The sun shone for us and the regatta and we had a great number of people through the door ☀️ 😁
