Castlefields Golf Club 2022

The 2025/26 Season concluded earlier this month with Paul Wood emerging victorious over the 15 week period in the Winter League and Freddie Wood winning the Winter League Finals Day. Well played Paul and Freddie.

The 2026/27 Season starts this coming weekend with new captain Paul Goldspink’s Captain’s Drive-In on Sunday 22nd March. This is a social Texas Scramble to be played over 15 holes.

Fixtures for March, April and May have all been listed on Master Scoreboard. Booking opens for the Majors/Board Competitions 30 days before the competition date, and 14 days before Recreational Golf and Medals/Stablefords/Bogeys.

Please use Master Scoreboard to check out the dates of all competitions and book your entry to them.

Whilst temporary greens are in use due to the overnight frost the course is looking great.

Thanks to Mark and Brendan for their work on/around the greens, Richard for almost single-handedly clearing the course of leaves throughout the autumn, and Mick who braved the ice this afternoon to get the fairways cut.

MIDWEEK STABLEFORD
From w/c 9th June we will be running a midweek competition open to all members.

This will be a Front 9 Hole Stableford with play permitted on a Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday - only 1 entry per week allowed.

How will it work:-
•⁠ ⁠Sign in to the days Recreational Golf before you play.
•⁠ ⁠Complete a scorecard as normal signed by yourself and your marker.
•⁠ ⁠Enter your score online.
•⁠ ⁠Put your card in the Competiton Box in the Clubhouse hallway.

Entry fee £2 (money in envelope in hallway letter box or to be taken from your competition balance) with £10 for the winner.

All submitted scores will count towards your handicap record on MyEG, so helping new members build a full record and longer standing members to maintain an active record.

Well after an awful winter the first six weeks of the golf season has surprisingly been played in sunshine. And as the weather's improved so has the course. Long may it continue.

The sun shone briefly for new Captain Keith Condon's Drive-In. The season opening event is a Texas Scramble so members can dust off their clubs and swing, with members aged from 8 to 90 joining in the event.

Played on temporary greens to allow pre-season work on the main greens to bed in, the challenge of a couple of the greens did not diminish the scoring with the winning team returning a fantastic 16 under par score of Net 38. Congratulations to Janet Hardcastle, Andy Killick, Jason Lane and Rob Moore.

Best of luck to Keith Condon for the season ahead.

Well done to the Rabbits Section and all who represented the club throughout the season.

September/October Update:
A double month update but first news of upcoming events.
- This years Winter League is in progress and this weekend is Week 5 of 16. Playing format is Individual Stableford with your best 8 scores to count, so still plenty of time to join. Entry Fee is just £6. The Top 12 from the Winter League will also qualify for the Winter League Finals Day.
- Sunday 24th November: Whisky Scramble. Social competition with a whisky theme. Playing format is Texas Scramble with a shotgun start at 9am. The entry sheet is on Master Scoreboard so sign up now.

Summary of recent results:
- Sunday 1st Sept - Scratch Cup - A 36 Hole Gross Medal event. Winner with rounds of Gross 61 and 54 and a total score of 115 Matthew Spink.
- Sunday 1st Sept - Tiger Trophy - Played alongside the Scratch Cup a 36 Hole Net Medal event. Winner with rounds of Net 59 and 58 and a total score of 117 Shaun Harris.
- Weekend of 6-8th Sept - Medal - Division 1 Winner Andy Shanks with a Net 52; Division 2 Winner Paul Wood with Net 57.
- Weekend of 13-15th Sept - Stableford - Division 1 Winner Damien Roebuck with 37 Points; Division 2 Winner Jason Armstrong with 38 Points.
- Sunday 22nd Sept - Thompson Salver - A qualifying competition for the Winners, Runner Ups and Best Gross for the 9 Medal events throughout the season. Winner Jason Armstrong with a Net 50.
- Sunday 29th Sept - Walter Priestley - A qualifying competition for the Winners and Runner Ups for all the Medal, Stableford and Bogey events throughout the season. Winner David Bartliff with a Net 52.
- Sunday 6th Oct - Thompson Gold - A Ryder Cup style match Tigers (low handicappers) vs Rabbits (higher handicappers). Playing format is Matchplay with 18 Holes of Foursomes in the morning and 18 Holes Individual in the afternoon. Winners were The Tigers.

August Update:
A summary of the events and results are listed below.
Sunday 4th August - Jackson Four - A 4BBB Stableford event. Winners were Chris Clay and Darren Beaumont with 46 Points. Best Gross was Matthew Spink and Nigel Bell with 1 under par score of 53.
Weekend of 9-11th August - Medal - Division 1 Winner Jonny Haley with a Net 53; Division 2 Winner Ian Haley with Net 57.
Wednesday 14th August - Past Captain's Trophy - An Individual Stableford event - Winner Ian Haley with 39 Points. Great to see Leighton Hirst, now a member at Huddersfield GC, joining the event and the meal afterwards at Bellini's in Brighouse.
Sunday 18th August - Rabbits Trophy - An Individual Medal event for players with a WHI of 15 or more. Winner Jonathan Tebb with a Net 50.
Weekend of 23-25th August - Bogey - Division 1 Winner David Bartliff with a score of 2 Down; Division 2 Winner Ian Haley with a score of 4 Up.
